A to Z Challenge: C is for Cats (that's good enough for me)

When it comes to pets, I have had cats more often than any other type of critter. Oh, not that I discriminate! There was Max the giant golden retriever mix that well found on the side of the road when I was 6, and then there was my hamster Carmel from when I was 13. But over the years I have had cats in my life most often.

There is something special and sweet about the feline purr-suasion (okay that was not punny!).  Cats are very intelligent creatures, very loving, and very dedicated, even if some folks don't think so. What others fail to realize is that cats are like any creature, they need love, attention, and someone to socialize with. I have grown accustom to their nature. If a kitten is not properly socialized young, then it grows into a aloof and distant cat that only comes around when there's food or the litter needs changing. People, I think, believe that cats can take care of themselves. While this is very true, cats are also creatures with personalities and (if you will) feelings.

I have been owned by cats (and any cat person will understand this statement) who have been attuned to my wavelengths. Although sometimes cats just prefer to be by themselves too. They knew when I was sad, angry, or just needed all of their 20 pounds sitting on my chest at night, trying to sleep. This is why I feel that cats are one of the best types of pet companions, as long as you are not deathly allergic; I then would defer you to a dog or hamster or fish (depending on your living arrangement and cost of living, not to mention if you  have the time to devote to the pet). I will never force cats onto non-cat people, but I do like to education folks on what I know of cats. I hate to see mistreatment where education could have prevented it.

Anyway, cats are lovely people and here are a few of my babies over the years, Lucy being the current.

  1. Visiting on day 3 of the #atozchallenge with all my fellow writers. I appreciate all the hard work it takes to participate. I hope you make many new blogging friends. A cat in one's life just makes things better. Alas, I am without the cat that filled our lives with fun and joy that finally died. The next best thing, I wrote a cat into my novel and she was endearing too. Writing about gardening for #challenge. Having fun. Your blog is really first class visually. Congratulations on all the hard work it takes to write here.

  2. For pets, I am a rock, plant and goldfish person. I like cats, but I have never owned one. I think seeing your pet on the side of the road must be devastating. Anyways, I enjoyed your post. Thanks for sharing.
