OctPoWriMo: Once a Dream, Now the Future

This prompt surprised me. I have regularly thought about this question and how it would effect me. there will always be what-if monsters running through your head. Even after 30+ years I still get them trying to knock me down and push me around. Since 2011 I have fought back. But sometimes i still get those moments we i consider what would be if I had done this or that. Today's poem is a little be of a reminder to keep fighting even when you don't feel like fighting, because every dream is worth fighting for and every future started as a dream. I like how I started and ended this poem.

Enjoy, Dear Readers!

Once a Dream, Now the Future

Once
I dreamt--
of chances
taken or not.
It's the query that
you ask yourself at night.
When you cannot find your sleep
and all alone inside your head
are the what-if gremlins dancing to
songs of what you didn't do, could've done.
The bravest thing that you can do is to
when faced with the inner demons of doubt--
pick up the mantle of courage.
Freedom is knowing your fear,
Daring them to face you,
and sojourning on.
Never forget
your future
were dreams,
once.
