And the Writing Continues...

 Day 6 of OctPoWriMo and Writober, and today's prompt is all about imposter syndrome. It is some that I deal with regularly. Feeling like I am not good enough, or why should I even try to do this or that. It makes for some unproductive days.


Imposter’s Waltz (Bop Poem)

 

It doesn’t matter if it is morning or night,

The beckoning call comes from the back of

My head, where the deep thoughts creep.

I just want to silence their singing,

Telling me to stop the battle that I

Am waging with my own two hands.

 

They sing sweetly of my failures,

Let me dance the tarantella of my faults.

I do not know when it started to play,

This melodic hymn of the false.

In this waltz, I try to step right,

Only to have my feet slide to the left, and I

See my mistakes laid out before me,

Accusatory of my attempts at Art.

 

When there is a flash of light, spilling

Into the darkness that this lying, macabre music tells.

I can see a luminated figure standing guard.

The lamplight is so bright, and I can finally see

Where I left my quill and ink, lying in the dust.

 (Etheree) Imposter Feels


For a moment it feels so natural,

Talking about the plans to be made,

When you tell me that I am dumb,

Stares blankly back towards your face,

What did I do? I ask.

Laughter, then silence.

You thought you could,

Came the words

From me

Mine.

I

Am the

Imposter.

Having some tea,

Sitting with myself

At a poser gala,

With crumpets and shame at my

Lack of control, thinking I could,

But not knowing better, I still say

That I cannot, I am the imposter.

OctPoWriMO Day #31 (endless)

Word prompts: endless, infinity, eternal, sharing love

Poetic Form: Etheree. A poem that consists of 10 lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 syllables.

I didn't want to think to deeply about today's prompt. It seemed fitting that I write this one from the heart, a philosophy of the heart, if you will. I have written a lot of intense poems this months, sparked by events in  my own life, and sometimes from my friend's lives. Today is more about how I feel about the emotions and feelings that rule my life. A bit taken from my personal philosophy put to words. Somehow the etheree was a fitting form to convey my thoughts as they trickle to a fine point.

I hope you've enjoyed this months writings, because I honestly have. There is something powerful in words, but also powerful in taking those words and making something new. I hope it isn't too trite. It is (gaily) from my heart.

Eternal

There is an eternal feeling in what
you know to be unconditional--
its a love borne of patient grace,
that finds its way back home to
what is better known as
a heart still beating.
My heart is real,
you are real. 
I see
you!

Day 4: It's a Cruel, Cruel April

Topic: What month is the cruelest? 
Poetry Form: Etheree

Simply put, we have about 4 to 6 inches of snow on the ground. Thus this poem was born!

Cruel April 

Spring,
It starts
With sunlight
Reaching across,
Greenery bursting
Against the Sapphic blues,
Clouds dropping a sudden storm
Cruelest mistress when sun shines
And yet you see the snow falling down.
How unfair when the seasons don’t play fair.

OctPoWriMo: Once a Dream, Now the Future

This prompt surprised me. I have regularly thought about this question and how it would effect me. there will always be what-if monsters running through your head. Even after 30+ years I still get them trying to knock me down and push me around. Since 2011 I have fought back. But sometimes i still get those moments we i consider what would be if I had done this or that. Today's poem is a little be of a reminder to keep fighting even when you don't feel like fighting, because every dream is worth fighting for and every future started as a dream. I like how I started and ended this poem.

Once a Dream, Now the Future

Once
I dreamt--
of chances
taken or not.
It's the query that
you ask yourself at night.
When you cannot find your sleep
and all alone inside your head
are the what-if gremlins dancing to
songs of what you didn't do, could've done.
The bravest thing that you can do is to
when faced with the inner demons of doubt--
pick up the mantle of courage.
Freedom is knowing your fear,
Daring them to face you,
and sojourning on.
Never forget 
your future
were dreams,
once.

Etheree on Yearning...

Today's challenge: to write a poem in the form of a review. You can review either animate or inanimate things, real places or imaginary places. You can write in the style of an online review (think Yelp) or something more formal that you might find in a newspaper or magazine. (I imagine that bad reviews of past boyfriends/girlfriends might be an easy way to get into this prompt, though really, you can “review” anything in your poem, from summer reading lists for third graders to the idea of the fourth dimension).

A Conversation with My Brain!

Um, well....

I am not sure about this. a review you say? ~turns head to look around, hoping to see someone else looking a little confused~ Not what I was expecting. Although these prompts generally are anything I expect. If I knew what to expect then I clearly wouldn't have an challenge in this particular challenge, right? I am not sure what to write about and since today is Y for the A to Z Challenge, I am even more put out.

I am not pouting!

I know it is optional, but I ALWAYS do the prompt. ~mumbles~ Okay, yes, I did choose to skip two of the prompts, but that was because of time and traveling and stuff....Finer! You're right brain! I can choose to NOT write the prompt, but that would be a waste of a chance to prove me wrong (well that part of my brain that doubts).

You're right, I need to write a review style poem. I need to stretch my muscles, push the boundaries. A writer writes! And so, I will write. And because I don't do anything small I am writing an ETHEREE. A poem that has 10 lines, each line has an increasing number of syllables, starting at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. An even greater challenge is a double etheree using the same formula: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

 This is a review of some of the thoughts that process through my head when writing poetry. It is about as close as I can figure and I think it works on its own level.


Y is for Yearning

Mind's a Yearnin'

Yearn--
I do
want some praise,
acknowledgement
for a job well done--
doing things diversely
or trying something new like
writing some triple tetractys
(I think that is eight syllables, right?)
I am always trying to strive for it.
Never am content to be average,
I will formulate a more thorough poem
with this day drawing to a timely close
it is that much more important
that I write  my words with care
even though I always
I still feel a yen,
a yearning to
write the best,
worth praise--

For my Athos: a limmerick (it is really lame), but it's a present for you on the eve of the end of NaPoWriMo and A to Z 2015.

What are things that are furry
with ears done up in a hurry
Lasting only two minutes
that’s definitely finite
So much for all that scurry.

For my Aramis: a love poem from my early college days, circa 2000. Since you write of love with such a passion, I thought you would appreciate this.

her touch

that which I have seen in dreams, stares at me this evening
her eyes glow uncertain, they seem tainted with tears
I wish to hold her
ease the pain that has plagued her
hazel eyes for so long
soft and gentle like the slow creeping ivy vines she twists around me
finding my weakness
but not that it would choke me, its grasp is far too gentle
calming
do I love her?
that never occurred to me
do I love her?
the touch that knows she's there
that she cares
does she love me?
patient hands that caress my tired head
my wretched soul, against her angelic one
how do I know?
do I love her?
never before until now have I known
can this love be real?
does she love me?
maybe I'm just dreaming again
but she still stands there, under lights of blue and gray

Blood Brothers

Holes in our mind
Nothing gets in
Frozen eardrums
Bleed through.

We don’t see it in time,
My guess is as good as yours.
You’re timid
I’m fearless,
Does that make us both cowards?

Stranded on beaches
Bare-boned to the world,
Wounds hide only what’s left of our pride.

I can’t take it
How can you?

Never see
What you seem to see.

My wish,
No harm to you,
But you push back,
Your spiny ridges poke through

OctPoWriMo Day 29: Phases

Poetry Prompts: What phase of love are you in, before, during, or after? Are you dancing with euphoria or
are you crying with despair at the unfairness of life and love?

Something new and something old in today's poem. I figured since today prompt reminded me of past loves, crushes, and romantic attachments of a sort, that I would take you down the road of those feelings. I think of these feelings as phases of a moon (relationship), especially the more outlandish ones. Imagine a youth, male or female, discovering love for the first time and what it does to he or she...

Poetry Form: Etheree, consists of 10 lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 syllables. Reversed Etheree: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Double Etheree: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10, 9, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...Triple Etheree, Quadruple Etheree, and so on!
