OctPoWriMo Day 7: Silent Truths

Use the following to write of the Silence, whether quote, or picture, or actual silence for 5 minutes.

My truths come from the mornings, that time when the dawn has not broken, or just after. I can see the truth of the Universe between the wisps of fog and the early sunbeams. The world and the universe are ours for the taking and the giving, if we open ourselves up to the basic core, the eternal beat of the earth, the silence that is before the beginning.

Wow! Feeling a touch prophetic and ephemerally tonight. I guess the prompt today did it's job. While I can't always turn off the noise I feel that this is a good prompt to be periodically. I did not do to the task based prompt. Unfortunately I have a bit too much to do, so I stuck with the quote and the picture. And pretty did I get with this one.

Actually I really like this one and am pretty proud of today's poem. Hope you enjoying reading it, Dear Readers, as much as I like writing it.

Quote Prompt:

“Silence introduced in a society that worships noise is like the Moon exposing the night. Behind darkness is our fear. Within silence our voice dwells. What is required from both is that we be still. We focus. We listen. We see and we hear. The unexpected emerges.”

Picture Prompt

Silent Truths

Have you even seen
the morning dawn,
foggy
and
damp?
The morning is the silence
where you hear yourself.

We are the lost.

The truth speaks
when all else has been turned off,
when the only other sound
is the heartbeat within your ears.

We are the found.

In a world of noise pollution,
where you have to scream to be heard
it is hard to know truth's whisper,
like a lover forgotten.

We are the  lost.

When noise is the
sermon of the masses,
yet you feel there is more
than the pounding civilization makes.

We are the Found.

When before the just born dawn,
naked and exposed.
And forsaken the overly loud
and constant volume,
 to hear the Universe be.

We are the Found among the Lost.

Round 4 Goals and Pefectly Imperfect OctPoWriMo

A two fold night, Dear Readers. Today is the beginning of Round 4 of a Round of Words in 80 Days. The blog challenge that knows you have a life. Tonight is the night I proclaim my goals for the next 80 days.

I am feeling a bit daunted this Round, because while I have learned quite a bit from my fellow writers, but I feel unaccomplished. It's not a total feeling mind you, but some of my goals feel by the wayside, while others turned out to be too broad. But, I am not too daunted to try a fresh  approach this time. As I pointed out in my Round 3 closing blog post, I have picked up some good habits, from making time for writing, visiting  fellow writers/using social media as a networking tool, journaling twice a week, reading more (better quality of my reading). That's not all, just the beginning.

Also, NaNoWriMo is creeping up, maybe faster than I thought. I need to get focused and work a little harder. Lots o' writing to be had and the subsequent editing that will follow. Currently working on OctPoWriMo challenge and my book to movie adaptation reviews. I just about finished the first book and am going to try to write that blog this week. Getting sidetracked now...

Editing! That is the other elephant in the room that I want to address and ultimately work on this round.

I want to make some definitive goals this Round and have some generic goals to keep me in line too.

GOALS FOR WRITING:
*Work on the Waiting Room concept story.
    *Work on Road Trip story.
    *WRITE!!1

GOALS FOR EDITING:
*Edit works to completion (or as close as I can get) - The Audition, Wearing the Mask, and something else that my brain can't remember at the moment. I will clear this up by Wednesday.
*Start the re-edit of the 2011 novel Tale of Memories.

GENERAL GOALS:
    *Blogging: twice weekly.
    *Read everyday.
    *Visit fellow bloggers/writer/friends.
    *Submit works.
    *Learn more of Scrivener.

Go visit the ROW80 Blog Hop and/or OctPoWriMo.

Well, that's it, Dear Readers! Those are my goals for Round 4! Going to try really hard with these goals and see what I can do. But right now I have a poem to write. We are entering the OctPoWriMo portion of the blog. Today's prompts is about What does perfect mean to you? Are you a perfectionist? What does your perfect day look like?

Word prompts for tonight include:
     *Perfect
     *Perfection
     *Perfectionism
     *Imperfection
     *Imperfect

I am writing a Naani. A four line poem that contains 20 to 25 beats within the whole of the poem. I just learned about it tonight. It reminds me of a haiku, but with a bit more wiggle room to get the point across. Naani is an Indian form and is usually written real time statements.

When I think about perfection, I think about how imperfection make perfections a reality. Thus tonight's poem. Enjoy, Dear Readers!

Perfect Imperfection

What you see
in my perfectly blue eyes
is not what you think you know.
The imperfections run deep.

OctPoWriMo, Day 5: The Changing Season

Today's word prompt: Chill, Changing, Aging

The Changing Season

It is here,
From MorgueFile
snuggled between the long sunny days
and the encroaching darkness--
the precarious time of year.

With a chill in the air
and the scent of dying leaves,
I can see almost to infinity
in the early morning hours.

The world every morning
is one grown weary with age.
Once they were bright green,
now the trees become paint brushes of
yellow ochre,
vermillion,
and burnt sienna.

The sky has now grown angry,
tarnished greyish and slate,
My Painted Lady Tree
after the azure of summer.
Clouds have taken over
making the aging sky ripe with Death.

As the temperatures drop,
and folks drape in sweaters
I feel the great pulse,
slower than before.
The earth is falling into slumber--
a hibernation.
I am swept into it's folds
and will not be released until the Solstice.

OctPoWriMo: Use Your Words

It's a short poem day. I have a Ghost Walk today and need to finish getting ready for that. It's raining and I am oddly not tired this morning. But hardly am I able to focus. Sometimes I am able to hit the brilliant points, the most expressive words, the purest intend. But, then there are those days when then words are needed and I am left wondering why I try.

Funny thing is, that I am always trying. I use my words carefully. I try not to be negative, help build people up, create new worlds, and make the world a better place. As a writer and a theatre person (director and stage manager), my words are important, and I try to use them properly, even when I take my time. It is very important to use the right words, in any situation.

These are the prompts I decided to go with for today.

Poetry Prompts: How do you use your words?
Writing Feeling Prompts: Reclaiming, Risk, Spirited, Courageous

Use Your Words

Words,
they don't come easily when they matter.
After the fact,
when you have time to think,
then the brilliance shines.

Use them you should,
picture from MorgueFile
for the silence that you keep
will only hurt longer.

Stand up for the weak,
speak for those with no voice,
make yourself heard
even if the words fail you.
To try,
it is more valiant than silence.

Use your words,
everyday,
even when you feel that
all will come out is NO!
A start begins with a single step
or a single word.
And that might just make a difference.

Come visit the others at OctPoWriMo and reads awesome poems and give encouragement.

Some music for the day. I have been enjoying the work of Post Modern Jukebox at work this week.

OctPoWriMo: The Tri-fall!

A Tri-Fall. That is what style recommended and this means I am going to attempt it. A tri-fall is a three stanza poem of six lines each, following a rhyme and metered pattern of A, B, C, A, B, C and 6/3/8/6/3/8. Quite a challenging form, indeed.

I actually had a chance to brain storm today during the day job for a few hours. Not that I was slacking, but I had a few moments where I could let my mind wandered.

Today's prompt is SWEET, CANDY, SUGAR, INDULGENCE, and while I had my pick of topic, everything from cheesecake to my husband. I was a little worried that I wasn't going to find my muse. There were a number of ways I could have taken the sweet or sugary approach too.

I wanted something different. I want sweet to be a person. Sweet can mean love, and I know a Love, Sara Love. I then channeled Neil Gaiman and wrote a poem in the vein of Stardust, but NOT. A lady as sweet as everything and joyous as the heavens.

Proposal of a Star

It is because of you, Dear
That I write--
For a love that burns in your core.
The sweetest star here,
Glowing bright
That hardly do I not feel poor.

If emotions were means
I would be
A lonely Prince among the stars.
But one boon then, my Queen--
May I see
Something that takes my unseen scars?

Loving you I have done,
But lonely.
Yet I find myself quite living.
Will you please join the fun?
Come and see
A world, to you I am giving.

OctPoWriMo off the cuff: Too Many Choices

A bit more on the fly, or off the cuff tonight, Dear Readers. It was a terribly long day and I was alone in the office for most of it. I couldn't even try to brainstorm on today's poem. Oh, well, I did find a path to traverse and oddly enough it worked. Much like today's poem, I made some choices and found myself a way to go.

Today's prompt focuses on the words TWO, TO, and TOO. No other hints, suggestions, icklings. Well, there was a suggestion, maybe write in couplets (2). That and using the word above might bring to fruition a desired response.

With that I thought and meandered. Sometimes I tried a sentence or two, and then an idea. I thought why not, right. Sometimes you gotta just try, take a chance, make a choice. HEE!! :-) The bane of writers sometimes. Thus, this was born....

Too Many Choices

There are two sides to every story told—
when one considers the possibilities of the writer.

Somewhere those are your choices,
Somewhere between the left and right.

A writer, is and  must the decider of the fate, you see
When choosing to spin a yarn or tell a tall tale.

Should they use alliteration to make their point stronger?
Or maybe have the protagonist speak in third person.

Dare I confuse you further when I say,
that out of every choice a writer makes breeds more choices.

Before you know what has happened
There, a trillion and one more choices have appeared,

And what you thought was simply a story with two paths
Is now an epic adventure with a multitude of walkways.

A storyteller is not just a teller of stories, no Sir, indeed,
They too are weavers of words, much as a spider weaves a web.

Making a giant quilt of home spun lays, or poems, or sonnets
That keeps the boredom away during the long winter’s night.

Storytellers, they are the guardians of writ and wisdom--
The makers of dreams, and entertainers too.

Remember that when you finish reading you next book,
The hard choices that the writer has had to make.

OctPoWriMo 2014 Day #1 - Butterfly Anew

First day of OctPoWriMo! ~w00t~

What is that about. Well, it's 31 poetry in 31 days. Each day provides a prompt  and/or style (from Morgan Dragonwillow) that you have to write a poem about or in. OctPoWriMo is a means to get the creative juices flowing and meet fellow poets, blogger, and writers (Click the link to see what the fuss is about and reading fellow poets works).

It's my first time here and I get free verse! And what do I do? When  I could write anything, anything at all, and what do I do? I write a effin' AWESOME pantoum, that's all. :-)

So, this had germinated over the whole day and I think it works. Often I like to compare one thing to another. Today's prompts are no exception to that. Hope you enjoy it. It is reminiscent of the recent Summer and seeing as Autumn is in full tilt here in Corning, I figured we could used a bit of summer memories wafting on the stray Autumnal breezes. It's been a bit warm here this week and I think that brought out some desires for summer.

You might be asking what a Pantoum is, right? They are one of my favourite styles of poetry, because they don't require rhyme, nor iambic pentameter, but they do repeat lines. Almost like a song. It is sometimes hard to get a story out of lines that repeat, while other times it just flows out of my fingers water. Pantoum is a form originally from Malaysia, but have been adapted to modern poetry over the years.
Anyway, enjoy today's poem....using the word prompts: Chrysalis, Butterfly, Transformation

Butterfly Anew

When the caterpillars begin to creep

along the leafy greens, it's time.

You alone know that soon there will be

something quite unlike anything before or after.

Along the leafy greens, it's time

When silken robes are donned,

something quite unlike anything before or after

And they crystallize into Chrysalis.

When silken robes are donned

as the transformation begins

and they crystallize into Chrysalis;

Their time begins anew.

As the transformation begins,

old into new, a new generation

And their time begins

and the Summer tide is alive.

Old into new, a new generation,

the life cycle of butterflies and man

and the Summer tide is alive.

And know this to be true

The life cycle of butterflies and man

Each are born to life and then to die

And know this to be true,

that the whole of the world is made.

When each is born to life then to die

with life as we know it stuck in the middle.

The whole of the world is made,
when the caterpillars begin to creep.
