Day 25: Silence Calls

Today's prompt is to use a line from a favourite poem to write a a new poem.

A favourite line of mine is from the end of the poem The Hollow Men by T.S. Eliot

"This is the way the world ends

This is the way the world ends

This is the way the world ends

Not with a bag, but a whimper."

 Silence Calls

It is the silence that echoes--

The silence that grows.

I am afraid sometimes

Of the silence.

I want noise echoing down the halls,

Music,

Television,

Something,

But there is nothing but silence

Growing in volume.

My ears filling with blood,

Pumping,

Pulsing,

Banging around my temples,

And this is how I fear my end,

Not with a whimper,

But a bang.

Shakespeare Day 2016

Yesterday was Shakespeare Day,the anniversary of Shakespeare's birth (?) and death day.

Yesterday was also the final performance of Corning Community College's Muse of Fire production of the musical adaptation of Love's Labour's Lost and the day before was the final performance of the Keuka Lake Player's production of Macbeth, so its been a month full of Shakespeare. Also, The Lake Country Players are filming a movie adaptation of the Bard's 12th Night shooting this summer. So, yeah, lots of Shakespeare in 2016.

I felt inspired to write a sonnet (which I have become quite adept at) taking pieces of Macbeth and Love's Labour's Lost in my own tribute to the Bard from Stratford-upon-Avon. If you have never read a Shakespeare play, or seen one performed, you are missing out. I realize that the language is a bit to grasp, but there is something liquid to his words, especially when performed. Listen to an well performed soliloquy and you'll see (hear) what I mean.

The Bard’s Call (or from Macbeth and Love’s Labour’s Lost)

Within the wood of Birnam do you go,

Searching for blood, reconcile the tyrant.

Spoken by the sisters three they echo,

A call to fate shining brightly brilliant.

When love’s vow is proclaimed against the rule

And you feel unjustly cohearsed by might

And the world you know has become that cruel,

Only by chance can one, an ending write.

Two stories told to the audience be

A miraculous joy, mirth and mayhem

With hardly poor players upon stages see

A tale “told by an idiot” poem.

Has been done since the 16^th century,

Not bad for a tanner’s son that he be.

NaPoWriMo 2016: Days 9 through 12

I have been hanging out in Scotland lately; rehearsing Macbeth, double doubling, and all that fun jazz. I have not had the time to devote to writing in one of my two favourite poetry challenges, NaPoWriMo. 30 poems in 30 days during the month of April. So, Dear Readers i am still writing, but i have to lump days together, because i work and then rehearsal and it TECH WEEK ZOMG!!!!

That leaves so little extra time to write and post. Working on changing that. But, in the mean time i give you Days 9 through 12.

Topic: a tritina is a shorter cousin to the sestina, involving three, three-line stanzas, and a final concluding line. Three “end words” are used to conclude the lines of each stanza, in a set pattern of
ABC, CAB, BCA, and all three end words appear together in the final line.

Passion's Burning

Upon the darken stage you do stand
in silence your hear your own heart
the moment is right and poise to strike.

Burst alive the tech crew will strike
to rearrange where your world will stand
and your passion welling in your heart.

Its when you are creating with your heart
a story told by players upon a stage do strike,
curtain and bows the cast will stand.

With tears, laughter, and heart strikes them to stand.

Feel the satin brush your skin,

A moment captured,
alive in sweat
and make-up,

Day 5 and 6: Vegetable (Rainbow) Poetry

Since the last two days have been about food, seeds, growing, I thought I would play with the rainbow theme in foods. Pantoum is truly my favourite poetic form to play with. While the free verse poem for today's prompt is a a good exercise in  trusting your words to flow and become something different, real, free standing.

Golden is the garden under the sun
where chlorophyll runs in veins
and the rabbits sneak like ninjas

stained glass gem stones ears grow

Earthen Rainbow

I wonder what a rainbow tastes like--

sweet like a juicy red delicious apple,

or hot and salty like potatoes French fried--

even though the Belgians claimed that right first.

I wonder what a rainbow tastes like,

firm and crisp like a carrot 

or soft and mushy like a banana

to long left out.

Maybe a rainbow tastes like what the earth provides 

instead of like skittles.

Maybe the rainbow

borne of the earth and sky,

prizmatic in colour

tastes like the babes born of the loam.

Day 4: It's a Cruel, Cruel April

Simply put, we have about 4 to 6 inches of snow on the ground. Thus this poem was born!

Cruel April 

Spring,

It starts

With sunlight

Reaching across,

Greenery bursting

Against the Sapphic blues,

Clouds dropping a sudden storm

Cruelest mistress when sun shines

And yet you see the snow falling down.

How unfair when the seasons don’t play fair.

Mr. Poe,

I read your words,

Out loud,

everyday.

They are so good!

I am inspired by you.

Wanting to become a poet because of you.

Did you know how much I enjoy saying

“Quoth” the Raven when I read THAT poem.

In fact, my favourite poems are

The Raven and Annabel Lee.

Did you know that?

I bet you didn’t as you are pretty busy writing cool poetry

And creepy stories.

See, I wrote you last moth asking what the deal was,

I mean with the poem, The Bells,

Are you a little obsessed with bells?

The jingling,

The tinkling?

REALLY?

You didn't write back, but I'm not mad.

Its very repetitive, but still catchy as I am still singing it to myself, three weeks later.

Where do you come up with the ideas for your poems?

I am usually trying to write poems about plastic spoons,

unrhymeable planet names,

or my cats.

I can never seem to write anything that people want to read,

So how do you do it?

Looking forward to hear you answer.

Spotlight: Coins of McGuffin

Today is Promote a Project Day!! Coins of McGuffin!

What might you ask is a Coins of McGuffin?

It is an animated web series where a brother duo sets off to unite the tribes of fandoms, charged by Exposition (the great glowing head guy) by collecting the lost Coins of McGuffin. I only learned of this exciting series a few months ago, but I am now hooked. David and Jonathan Green are making an awesome animated series about adventure and fandoms. They have 2 episodes already under their belts on their YouTube channel and are working towards an episode 3, 4, and possible web comic. Go check them out here at Coins of McGuffin! You know you want to ~points to you~.

They, along with host Marsha Adair and the McGuffin team, also create highlight episodes of the fandoms that they include in their series. A nice quick introduction to the fandoms.

Right now they need your help. It takes a lot of time and money to make these animated episodes. And up until now they have been funding the episode production themselves. Currently Dave and Jonathan Green need your help to create episode 3. They have a Patreon page and a Kickstarter to help them raise the funds.

The kickstarter has 11 days left as of this blog post. Consider joining the fandom McGuffin bandwagon, or if you cannot make the kickstarter in the next 11 day, then remember the Patreon page. Also, please spread the word, far and wide, to all of the fandoms the joys of the McGuffin. The best part about the kickstarter is perks for joining, everything from trading card (also a cool card game), stickers, choosing the next fandom to get a card or an episode done on it, custom made cards, and of course the love of some super talent geeky people.


Have you ever been into a TV show, comic book series, movie, book series, or cosplaying? It's a fascinating world of joy and discovery and when you meet or introduce more people to the world you get an expanded feeling of joy. I know I do! And I love the joy of joining other fandoms. There's quite a lot out there you know. Coins of McGuffin is a fun look into the fandoms and what we may or may not have in common within each fandom.

Episode 2 - Fan

These episodes are fun! This series is awesome. More people need to know about the Coins of McGuffin.

And after all, us geeks and nerds need to stick together, right?
