OctPoWriMo - Day 23 Iris and Arke (Arke's Bow)

Writing Prompt: Iris and Arke, the rainbow sisters, both are messengers of the gods. Arke was the muted second rainbow who betrayed her sister and became the messenger of the Titans in the battle of the gods. She was banished to Tartarus after the Zeus and the others gods won.

Think about messengers, and even use the story of Iris and Arke if you want. How do you think those sisters were feeling? What really made Arke leave? What was the message?

Poetic Form: Nonet

Arke's Bow

We speak in colours arching skyward
and I can feel over shadowed
when my sister speaks in bow--
the language of our kind.
No matter how loud
I try to speak,
I'm muted--
colours,
blur.

Day 5 and 6: Vegetable (Rainbow) Poetry

Since the last two days have been about food, seeds, growing, I thought I would play with the rainbow theme in foods. Pantoum is truly my favourite poetic form to play with. While the free verse poem for today's prompt is a a good exercise in  trusting your words to flow and become something different, real, free standing.

Enjoy, Dear Readers!

To Eat a Rainbow

Golden is the garden under the sun
where chlorophyll runs in veins
and the rabbits sneak like ninjas
around the perimeter preparing for...

Where chlorophyll runs in veins
by the earthen shores of loam
around the perimeter preparing for
salads and garnishes and veggie trays galore.

By the earthen shores of loam,
stained glass gem stones ears grow
salads and garnishes and veggie trays galore
in a cornucopia of colour.

Stained glass gem stone ears grow,
Molokai and Orangegle too
in a cornucopia of colour
that is beautiful as is delicious.

Molokai and Orangegle too
and the rabbits sneak like ninjas
that is beautiful as is delicious
Golden is the garden under the sun.

Earthen Rainbow

I wonder what a rainbow tastes like--
sweet like a juicy red delicious apple,
or hot and salty like potatoes French fried--
even though the Belgians claimed that right first.
I wonder what a rainbow tastes like,
firm and crisp like a carrot
or soft and mushy like a banana
to long left out.

Maybe a rainbow tastes like what the earth provides
instead of like skittles.
Maybe the rainbow
borne of the earth and sky,
prizmatic in colour
tastes like the babes born of the loam.
