OctPoWriMo - Day 6 (While Pacing the Floor)

I am 41 minutes late...

....because I was distracted, Dear Readers. And I don't have a clue. Here's a cherita taken from something I am most familiar with, acting. Enjoy!

Writing Prompt: Pacing the Floor

While pacing the floor

I can see sun streaks across the carpet,
marking time's passage

in infinitesimal scenes
that play out to the much larger stage
of the world's company.

OctPoWriMo - Day 5 - Understanding (When I was Younger)

Today's Prompt: Brainstorm a list of the things you now understand that maybe you didn’t quite comprehend as a young person.

Simply put, today's poem in is the muses of an adult thinking back on the world as a child and the world as an adult. It's a good remind of the innocence of youth and the harsh realities of the adult. But, also, I'd like to think that I (and all of us) can remember that magical, whimsy even as adult, regardless of the state of the world.

Word Prompts: Magic, Skinned Knees, Candy, Small World v. Big World

When I Was Younger

When I was younger,
I could see
the magic floating on the air,
and politics never bothered me.

When I was younger,
a skinned knee
was the worst hurt in the world,
compared to that of a broken heart.

When I was younger,
a dollar could
buy all the candy in the world,
today, ten will barely fill your gas tank.

When I was younger,
everything was so small,
now the world as we know it
is so much vast and scary.

Dear Readers, leave me a comment, or some love in the comments sections below. What about childhood do you miss, or remember fondly? What would you never want to return to (you don't have to answer that part if you don't want to)? What about being an adult do you fear, or enjoy?

OctoPoWriMo - Day 4 - (Traveling by Ink)

Today's prompt is very whimsical and faerie tale inspired. I certainly needed it today; something I can escape to, what with the political climate, the natural world rebelling, and the passing of Tom Petty (who hit me harder than I thought possible, especially since David Bowie and Alan Rickman's deaths last year). I just wanted to open what a doorway and walk or jump through. I am also hoping the Doctor will land the Tardis outside (or inside) my door and scoop me up.

Anyway, Dear Readers, enjoy today's fare. Love me some love in the comments and me about a place to wish or want to travel to, or maybe a place you have traveled to recently.

Writing Prompts: between the clouds and the water, where poetry hides, fantasy location, vacation, in my world.

Traveling By Ink

Another world
where the clouds meet the earth--
a door opens,
leave this place for another
and somewhere
you'll find
something important,
maybe treasures
or songs.

To write
of adventures to be had,
loves to be love,
or heartaches to live,
and makes living worthwhile.

Doesn't it?

OctPoWriMo - Day 3 - Cheritas (Too Hot)

Dear Readers, I have found a form that works wonders with my brain. The Cherita, a Malaysian poetic form, is like storytelling and songwriting without the rhyming and meter. There isn't  even any repetition. Cherita means story, and I'm excited to try it out.

Also, technically they are untitled poems, but I'm in the habit of titling my poems.

Writing Prompt: Metal, Taste, Taste of Metal

Too Hot

Licking my lips

From the last meal,
the metallic burn leeching

Onto my tongue,
nothing else remains
but charred steel.

Leave me some love below...

OctPoWriMo Day 2 - We Write Because... (Haiku Humour)

When the words don't seem right, or maybe I am too angry; that is the time that I think I need poetry the most.

It's been a weird day between the world going to shit, and feeling very helpless, yet wanting to be productive. I ended up not very productive....and yet, I still ran after work.  Good thing! The pulsing adrenaline making me feel alive. Still not thrilled with my muse today, so I take my helpless feeling and use that to write...

I am trying something new, trying to write humour--within a poem.

 Poetic Form: Haiku (Extended)

Word Prompts: Write, Poetry, Muse, Inspire

Haiku Humour

Why do I try to
And don't even know reasons--
from pen to paper.

Give me writing prompts,
and maybe I write something
deep like a well, now...

That would be a play
on words, some humour you say
to throw a punchline.

Would you be able
to catch it after it is
thrown, a mean left hook.

OctPoWriMo Day 1 - Why Am I here? (Writer's Purpose)

Happy OctPoWriMo, Dear Readers!

Today's Prompts: family tree, DNA, roots and branches, origin story, ancestry, heritage

From MorgueFile

Writer’s Purpose

Upon the road I traveled,
So long and far
Sometimes I’ve been alone,
Others,
With a companion
Singing the praising of the open road,
Vastness of the skies,
Deepness of the voids.

To be specific,
I have traveled far--
An adventurer lost to the desertscapes
With no water,
Shoulder deep in quicksand,
Or out thumbing it across the miles
Like a female Kerouac;
Getting off on Billy’s sonnets,
Lulled to sleep by Poe’s grotesque songs,
Or singing the praises of Frosty’s travels
Through woods dark and deep.

All the way grasping at my own experiences,,
Maybe seeking meaning in the course corrections
Birthed from catastrophes,
Rhyming my sadness
To the orgasmic joys of success.
I am not alone
With the words I put to page,
Or digital text,
Because I am reaching out to you,
Lighting the way in the darkness
That has forced itself upon everyone
At some time in our lives.

I am here,
Writing,
Because others came before,
To speak their truths,
Tell their stories,
Build their mythologies,
As I am doing now.

7:51 pm

I wrote this in 10 minutes, but I had been thinking about the topic since about noon. Every writer, poet, playwright, artist, person has a story, they mileage varies and makes their stories unique. I wanted to tell mine, especially my story from the last two years, but oddly enough the words that came were more of why I write, and my influences. It's funny, you know what you want to write, but sometimes the words will still surprise you. Enjoy!

Update June 2017

You know, I started this blog is 2012 and it is 2017. My how time flies!

So, Dear Readers, I don't want you to think I have forgotten you. My life has certainly been busy, if not interesting, between  theatre, writing, and life in general. I will say that my plans for this blog have change much. Where I once blogged about books, movies, music, and pop culture, I find now a bit of a barren landscape, something like Siberia, or maybe the deserts of Kazakhstan.

Kazakh Desertscape
I'm currently writing a podcast, with the intent to record it and put it out into the world. So, much of my writing/editing time is wrapped up in this. It's very exciting; and it is also the first project in a LONG while I have been passionate about. There are also my children's books. I have two completed stories, I just need to figure out how I am going to fund them. These are to two major projects I have planned to work n this year. And since I've taken the summer off (and likely into the Fall) of theatre, well, I now have the time to devote to them.

On a personal front, I am the happiest I have been in a year. I can't say that every day is perfect, but I have found myself and continue to find myself on this journey of life. I've been published in a local anthology, played First Witch in Macbeth, and I've started jogging and taking better care of my health. Those are just a few things to point out.

I have also learned that to be strong means to stand proud, to help others, make great (or not so great) art, to not live in shadows, to not lean so heavily on others, but also to ask for help when you need it. I am building my own Mythology out of these lessons! By telling my stories, both my own stories and the stories in my head. It is very freeing and rewarding, and yet painful. I'm enjoying the ride.

I likely will post update from time to time here. Also, I will continue to write pieces about nerd stuff, books and movies, and other important type matters. It won't be every week, but I do enjoying sharing my world with you. Keep checking back for updates!

As always, Dear Readers, be good to each other and help make the world a little bit better.

What is one thing you remember from growing up that has left an impact on you?

Mine is the book A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. It's story resonates a truth about struggles and learning to cope with the demons you may be battling. Oh, and space travel to other planets is awesome by Tesseracts!
