OctPoWriMo: Day 27 (There is Magic in the Making)

Prompts: Magic, Holiday, Ancestors, Veil / Poetic Type: Terzanelle

Samhain's Gift

This, at last, is the time

when the veil becomes the thinnest

This, at last, is the time

when those who had turned to dust

gets to return to your door

when  the veil is the thinnest.

This is the lore

that has been lost to the eons

gets to return to your door;

and be gone when the day dawns.

This is the magic of the holiday

that has been lost to the eons.

All you need to pay,

a gift of an apple or two,

this is the magic of the holiday.

With this I will too--

This, at last, is the time,

a gift of an apple or two--

This, at last, is the time.

OctPoWriMo Day #18: (once upon a time...)

Word Prompts: magic, enchantment, spell, fascination, prestidigitation, hocus pocus, conjure

Poetic Form: Fable

It's story time! I don't have too much to say, but this is my fairy tale. A mythology in the making.

Enjoy, Dear Readers!

Upon Once Her Time

Once upon a time...
there was one so fair
that she did stare within mirrored frames
to she truly how fair she was.
unbelieving,
she painted her face
to match what mood others wanted to see,
though she never believed.

Conjuring up enchantments for
others to see,
but leaving nothing left for her.
Weaving the stories,
filled with magical creatures,
and adventure beyond anything;
the the delight of children's laughter
and comedic mirth.

A whole still sat,
lonely,
longing,
like one of her enchantments,
until one day
a book left on her doorstep,
with the word, Abracadabrah!

And poof!
a chariot driven by badgers
and pulled by dragons,
a note saying Follow! This way.
And there by the end of everything,
there was everything she had every wanted
brought to her
in a happy ever after.

H is for Here (There be Dragons)

Here, There be Dragons.

I've talked a lot about this book in past blogs; I will keep this short then. Here, There be Dragons written by James A. Owen is a fantastical story of high adventure, magic, literature, and heroes.

You're probably thinking that is like any fantasy book currently on the shelves of your nearest bookseller. Yeah, it may be, but what does Here, There be Dragons have that those books don't?!?!?!

Badgers!

Yes, badgers. First it was Tummeler; his story is heavily in Here, There. He is an aspiring Scholar and a pretty nifty driver (although you might want to buckle up if he drives). He goes into publishing to create the greatest tool ever, (no not Google, but a Little Whatsit) and is my favourite character outside of Samaranth, but that is for another time. Tummeler comes to the aid of John, Charles, and Jack the new Caretakers of the Imaginarium Geographica, as he knows a thing or two about the Archipelago of Dreams and those who live there and blueberry muffins. Oh,and there are more badgers in other later books.

Here, There is also about triumph over the forces of evil (does that sounds menacing enough?), let's try triumph over all things dark and brooding. Yeah, I like that! I think I should write book descriptions, right? Okay, off topic, I know. I just really enjoy Here, There be Dragons with all of its surprises and mysteries, but also it is a solid story; fully engaging and entertaining.

Now for a poem about the adventures of said Caretakers. Enjoy!

Indigo Winter

It started on a stormy night
when three men meet to find death;
adventure is waiting for them
in a man buried under scarves.

When three men meet to find death,
a dragon ship transport awaits to bring
a man buried under scarves
for a quest is called from one greater.

A dragon ship transport awaits to bring
the three Scholars to the isle forgotten
for a quest is called from one greater
and a book of maps they might chase.

The three Scholars to the isle forgotten;
to meet the Cossair, the Pirate Queen, and Badger;
and a book of maps they might chase
to discover who this king of winter might be.

ATo meet the Cossair, the Pirate Queen, and Badger
aboard the dragon ship of Indigo
to discover who this king of winter might be
and are charged the quest of the Archipelago.

Aboard the dragon ship of Indigo
adventure is waiting for them
and are charged the quest of the Archipelago;
it started on a stormy night.

OctoPoWriMo: Lessons

Okay, I free formed it again. Not that that's bad, but seriously the randomness is running wild this month. Whatever do you mean, you might be asking Dear Readers? It's OctPoWriMo, the month long, poem-a-day challenge. Everyday there is a new prompt and you can use that prompt, or free write, and then you post to this linky page where all of the OctPoWriMoes hang out.

Today's Prompt: Magic

Word Prompts: Mystical, Fantastic, Magic

I went in a different direction today. I am a HUGE fan of Neil Gaiman, so, thusly when I was introduced to this little ditty earlier this year, I suddenly knew what I wanted to write about today. Funny how that works! Sometimes we know what we what, but we are are afraid to believe, as carry over from yesterday's prompt I give you some lesson is how to believe. Taken from my own experiences and journeys, and a little from the people who have inspired me. I do hope you enjoy this one, Dear Readers. I wrote it JUST FOR YOU.

Lessons

Giving into the magic,
how freeing
whether in a book
a palette of paints,
or a large blue box.

You must remember the rules--

First,
don't take anything for granted.
The world,
its big
and nothing is like it seems--
you simply can't take it for granted.

Next,
there is seeing.
You don't ever,
ever have to see
to believe.
If you just know,
then it is.
Trust that, it is important.

It's okay to believe in dragons,
faeries,
and magic.
Those who don't
rarely meet leprechauns
or talk to trees.
Heck, I don't think a single doubter has ever,
ever
found the gold at the rainbow's end.

Every once and a while
have an adventure.
This is important, don't forget!
Adventures are good for the skin,
aid in digestion,
and promote growth.

Sometimes the smallest joys
reap the greatest rewards.
So, you can enjoy
that piece of cheesecake,
because it that cheesecake might just
hold the magic key
or maybe that bowl of fish fingers
and custard.

Of course,
you are not obliged
to follow these guidelines.
Those who know of magic
are already aware,
but it doesn't hurt to remind them.
And,
to tell everyone else that
unicorns are real,
rainbows lead to magic lands,
and the you NEVER,
EVER
have to grow up.

And finally,
sometimes,
when the world
throw you a pickle cream pie,
then you duck.

Also, here is my original poem from yesterday without shape. I wanted to share, because sometimes something is important and needs to be shared. And other times it just is...

This is fear.
Always fear.
Monster-like
but just another me.
Telling me lies
leading me down
falling like
rain
ruining my day.
