OctPoWriMo - Day 12 - (A Drive One Day)

I tried to write a sestina, Dear Readers, I tried. Alas, the inspiration that I had would not channel through this form. Every time I try, every time, well, I may get 1 good stanza, and then it just sort of falls apart. I wrote one once, a sestina, that is. It was terrible. I have mentioned it before on this blog, I won't bore you with it now. A sestina, while it is a very detailed form is just not for me. I would rather write a million sonnets or blitz poems, hell even a shape poem, just not a sestina. I'm sorry, Beverly! I tried.

What poetic forms just don't work for you? Do you know why? What are your favourite poetic forms to write in? If  you not a poet, what do you hate to write, what do you love? Leave me a comment below. Enjoy!

So, I the mean time, Dear Readers, I will present the poem I wrote out of the first stanza of the failed sestina.

Word prompts: joy, clouds, music, rocket, coffee, imagine

A Drive One Day (of Many)

Should be relaxing,
not filled with
pumping music,
cursing,
and questioning all of existence--
achieving the desire
to work
to be productive
to feel alive,
but somewhere between coffee
and the wispy foggy clouds,
I am here,
sitting,
floating,
extremely fast over the asphalt,
pulsating rhythms
and blood through my veins,
questioning always,
why the road
looks more like a black sea
than pavement.

Choose Your Own Adventure: Quest for the Holy Grail of Muses or Creativity Grail

It's story time, Dear Readers!

Once Upon a Time it was February. The first of February, a Wednesday (okay, some of this is based on truth), the middle of week. The barely covered grass  boasts green brown, stunt grass, and little else. It is a very boring, sad sight.

That's how I am feeling.

They say that the third week in January is the worst part of winter, especially here in the northern wastes. Okay, that's an embellishment, but as my friend Jack often says about where he grew up in a little town North of Corning, NY, it is the great northern snow wastes (or something like that). I will have to pay royalties to Jack now. Great!

Well, anyhow, it's the first of February, and honestly January, while it's rough and utterly disgusting. Trust me, I have lived in New York State for thirty seven years, and in most of that time, well January is SHITE! Utter crapastically shite! The cold, the wind, the snow, and the bleakness that rules everything. It's bad! This means, Dear Readers, that if you are not engaged in a hobby, job, or some mundane task, then you are forced to try to figure winter out. Often it is too cold, windy, or light out to do much of anything. And many of you, myself including suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder, in possibly additionally other mental type disorders.

So, I am currently in a battle, Dear Readers!

Truth, I suffer from fear of complacency, and actual complacency. If I am not currently doing something, I don't do anything, and then am left feeling terrible about my lack of productivity.

It's like I'm on a quest for the Holy Grail of Muses, or the Golden Calf of Creativity, and while on this quest I decide that staying in bed and binge watching She-Ra is a better option.

No don't get me wrong. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu are all great, but there is always this nagging little faerie (think Navi fro Zelda) yelling at me with high-pitched shrieks.

I'm on this quest and I find myself facing the Lazy Beast of Netflixia, a far away, and that loves to attack innocent travelers. Well, on this first of February I met this beast and it my attempt to slay it, found me at the mercy of my bed, warm blankets, and two sleeping Beasts snoozing next to me. I have put down my sword and pressed the button,

Three hours later I was still in the familiar lands of My Bed, and the sleeping Beasts are gone. I pick up the mantle of intrepid traveler, adventurer, and continue to seek the Grail of Muses. Further down I find a kindly gentleman with a pack of books. He agreed to sell me a magical tome. After a moment of bantering I now have a tome of literature and make my way to the nearest tavern where I am greeted with a cheerful smile and a hot cup of stimulate. There is another hour wasted, and I have in a cold half drunken cup of stimulate and no Grail.

You can see where this is going, right, Dear Readers?

I picked myself up and fill my satchel full of supplies and leave the tavern. Again going out into the frigid cold, the deadened landscape to seek my query. Only I am left wandering the well worn paths seeking clues to what I am looking for. What am I looking form? I don't even anymore.

Yes, there is a point, Dear Readers...

I wander down into the valley. There is a familiarity to the land, and I can't help feeling that maybe this is what I was looking for before. There are many buildings in the village, but I find the one place that I have always know, always gone to, and relied on. It is a tavern, but this time as I am walking up to the front door, the overhead sign  depicting a chalice of steaming liquid, I open the door and it's warm and the familiar smell of caffeine and baked goods. I have come home. The sleeping beasts are far from here, the charlatan's pedaling easy answers stay away. And I sit down only to realize that I had the Grail with me the whole time. Before I know it, I have a story sitting in front of me.

See, Dear Readers, there was a plot to this story. Simply, I know what works when I am feeling like I'm in a rut, or the Winter Blues are attacking. Sometimes you just need to take that moment to see why you are not happy, and then do it. Thus doesn't mean that I will always feel this productive. Some days are really hard, and my life is VERY different than what it was a year ago. What worked before, may not always works, but if I don't try, if I don't make an effort, then I won't know.

Winter sucks, especially here in the Great Northern Snowy Wastes, but it doesn't have to take me out everyday. I can battle it and win. Sometimes I give in and binge watch She-Ra or Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But other times, especially when I don't go into work because it is slow and there is nothing for me to do, I do need to go on quests for the Creative Grail, because otherwise I might not have written this blog post / story from you now.

What I do~~~
I love to read books. I just finished a re-read of The Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica by James A. Owen, working on finishing the Inkheart series (halfway through Inkdeath). I do community theatre and have lines to learn for a show that goes up at the end of April. Also, I am working on getting published this year.

Leave me a comment about what you do to beat the Winter Blues. How do you fight the sleeping beasts or the charlatans of Netflixia? Or if you need a lazy day, because you've been extremely busy, what do you do to relax and unwind?

Palinode: The Anti-Coffee Morning

NaPoWriMo Poetic Form Prompt: Palinode: (noun) 1. a poem in which the poet retracts something said in an earlier poem. 2. a recantation.

Topic: Coffee

I took my Palindrome Poem and tried to invoke an anti-coffee sentiment. Where coffee in my natural habitat of the morning and is one of my joys and indulgences. Here with the Palinode I tried see the other side. It's not quite the opposite of the Palindrome Poem, but the essence is definitely of the opposite. Doesn't feel like my strongest poem, but there were moments of pleasure meandering through the poem. Read on, Dear Readers and enjoy!

The Anti-Coffee Morning

I can hardly see the reason why
coffee is such thing.
When it's only seems to tastes
like that of dirty socks.

I cannot abide the need
upon waking
of the coveted chalice
of caffeine of "the gods".

I laugh.

It seems silly.

As,
my eyes awaken
on their own.
As,
My brain is aware
of its own senses
without the desire
to drink this liquid most foul.

I am most aware all on mine own--
in the sunshine,
in the morning,
in the last few minute before the alarms rings.

Blogging from A to Z Challenge: G is for Greek Food!!

You know that I haven't had Souvlaki is eons, EONS I tell you. Souvlaki is basically shish-kabob, using either beef, chicken, sometimes lamb. You can get it in a sandwich form, which is called a gyro (pronounced yero). It is so good. I love to get souvlaki dinners that come with pita bread, hummus, salad, greek potatoes, olive and feta cheese.

Feta cheese is the stuff of the gods. By itself, maybe not the most exciting cheese, but with a salad or souvlaki, its to die for. Okay, enough is enough. My mouth is watering.

Are you hungry now?

Sunny Sunday and The Tempest

It's a sunny day and I am just trying to wake up after having lost an hour due to Daylight Saving Time. Do we actually save time? I don't think so. I know losing and hour suck horribly. Need MOAR COFFEE!!

[After several more cups of coffee]

Okay, time to finish this.

I have all mah lines in mah head! They seem to be sticking, but now it making sure that I get all teh words that Shakespeare put in his play. [shakes fist to the heavens] SHAKESPEARE! Just kidding, I love it, but there are time when the words get in the way. We are a little more than a month and a half away from the show. Holy Crap!

For the last two days I have been painting. I seemed to have found the painting muse, Urania the Muse of Astronomy, and as I have been painting the Tardis, she seems fitting. Part of a social media project to make something for random people within the year 2014. I have a lot of Whovian friends, so it was naturally going to fall to Tardises and Doctor scarves. I have missed painting. There is something soothing and meditative about smearing paint across canvas or paper. Might paint a bit more before the weekend is over.

See my Deviant Art Page: MissDragonLady!

Been working on getting Lake Country Improv geared up and prepping for The Lake Country Players, 24 Hour Theatre at Old Havana Courthouse Theatre next month. Theatre created in 1 day! Theatre is coming alive with the melting of the snow and the longer days. It's exciting to see new writers and old professionals coming together to make something great. Lake Country Improv is gearing up for a FULL season this year at The Montour Falls Methodist Church, the last Tuesday of every month April through August 2014.

Finally getting through "Inheritance", am surprised that it's still good. I am enjoying it, even with the feel of Tolkien coursing through the veins and lines and paragraphs. I am hoping to get a bit more consistent with my reading after "Inheritance", not that I will ever truly be caught up on books. NEVER!

Been a little dry with the writing over the last few weeks. I am trying to at least write poetry, mostly haiku and blogging. I think I am focus on other project  and those energies are getting re-directed. I am still writing. Been trying more writing prompts both on twitter and with my fellows at AROW80. It's not a bad thing. I have my WIPs "In the City" and the "Doctor Who" story, and I want to adapt my story "Crying Mascara" into a stage play (an 1 Act), and a few other smaller writing projects. I am going to focus on these in the coming months (March thru April) and see if I can get a bit more on track.

I want to thank you, Dear Readers, for the words of encouragement and advise. It has helped to get my brain focused, to try new things, and to not fall into a rut. Admin the some rough bumps that started this year, I am even more convince that this writing thing is for me. I enjoy it so much: blogging, poetry, stories/plays, novels, and such. Call me a Jack-of-all-Trades, I do a little bit of everything.

Upcoming shows April 2014
Dear Readers have a great week! I am going to be busy this week. Spring has sprung (mostly), it's time to enjoy the weather. Be good to each other and find someone today, tell them you love them (or that you care for them). I'll be around if you have need of anything.

Remember this Blog is part of a Blog Hop! Check out some of my fellow writers and bloggers! Pay it Forward.
