N is for The Night (Circus)

Speaking of traveling players, The Night Circus is a literary joy to read and even more fun to imagine. A  circus of dreams that is only open from sunset to sunrise, only to disappear one place, and then appear in another, it sounds like a dream, right? To some it is, but to others it is a nightmare. Frightening concept, right? Or exciting?

A beautifully, fantastical story, The Night Circus written by Erin Morgenstern is a book to be experienced. It feel very much like a Twilight Zone episode and a Neil Gaiman story all rolled into one. Fun fact, it was a NaNoWriMo novel-National Novel Writing Month-before it was a novel, which is really exciting for any  writing participant and/or aspiring writer.

In November every year,NaNoWriMo, a month-long challenge to write a novel is massive dedication by thousands of writers to write the daily word count of 1,667 words or more, which is harder that it looks. Trust me, I have been there. One must prepare outlines (they are your friends), plot, character sketches, and have an idea of what you are writing about. Inspiration is a must, however to acquire it! If you are interested, go to NaMoWriMo for more information.

I love the dream-like qualities of the Cirque de Reves-the circus portrayed in The Night Circus-and something about it make you want to go find yourself, or maybe just get lost.

So, hopefully today's poem will inspire you to go to the circus.

Impossible Circus

Dreaming of the impossible fare,
with high flying acrobats
and daring dos of bravery,
taming lions to jump through hoops.

With high flying acrobats,
and the wind in your face;
or taming lions to jump through hoops,
but what if you could walk on clouds?

And the wind in your face,
in an adventure most unforgettable,
but what if you could walk on clouds
or visit fantastic ice gardens that bloom?

In an adventure most unforgettable,
you can see things beyond your wildest imagination,
or visit fantastic ice gardens that bloom
and maybe catch a glimpse of a rare sight.

You can see things beyond your wildest imagination
that of living ice sculptures that breath candy floss
and maybe catch a glimpse of a rare sight,
of the speculated reverse rhinoceros.

That of living ice sculptures that breath candy floss
and daring dos of bravery
of the speculated reverse rhinoceros;
dreaming of the impossible fare.

Much Progress

Today is a mass of hysteria and confusion as I sort out everything I need to do. Bear with me, Dear Readers. I am trying to get caught up on stuff, so this is getting posted on the late side.

This Week:
*Reading: making slow work of Inkheart (Cornelia Funke). It a good novel and I need to soak it in. I have forgotten much of it since my last read of it.
*Writing: wrote my OctPoWriMo poems daily (about 100 words each), Tuesday Writing Blitz (700+ words), Wednesday Writing Blitz (713 words), ROW80 post (863 words), and some NaNoWriMo prep work (its coming too fast).
*Editing: Didn't get to editing Tuesday, but managed to get about an hour on some edits tonight. I wrote this so out of order that getting these edits and re-writes into the script is really going to take a while. But on the upside I feel I am getting a clearer story out of The Real Road Trip. Its becoming a stronger story. I have chapters now, but they feel more like sections while I sort this story out. We will see after I finish with this re-write draft.
*Theatre Stuffs: scanned the my script (so I can print of a Lighting and Sound Technical Script tomorrow). Making sing-up sheets for make-up, and help for box office and parental guard duty. Typed up stage notes for Act 1. Much more to come....less than three weeks now!
*House Tending: got plumber to fix leaky pipe in basement, getting a quote on a new furnace (joys of home ownership) as it appears that the furnace is shot, keeping up with laundry. Most of the dishes are now done.
*Social Media: spending tine on Twitter, visiting 4 blogs daily from ROW80 and OctPoWriMo (at 4 for each since Sunday), and keeping up with my sponsor duties.

This (upcoming) Week:
*Reading: continue reading Inkheart, read Murder Comes Ashore (Julie Anne Lindsey), and start Mrs. McGinty's Body (Agatha Christie). Update my Goodreads Reading Challenge.
*Writing: write daily, at least 300 words. Hoping to make this happen in the latter part of the week this week. Spend a little time getting character sketches done and finish a mock outline for Modern Muses for NaNoWriMo, because that starts on Sunday.
*Editing: Spend 1 day between now and Sunday editing The Real Road Trip for an hour.
       *Blogging: post Thursday.
*Social Media:  4 blogs daily, sponsor duties, spend time on Twitter.
       *Theatre Stuffs: report.
       *House Tending: report.

A Round of Words in 80 Days is a blog challenge that knows you have a life. Come and see what the other ROW80-ers are writing about at the Blog Hop.

HOw are your goals coming? Who is doing NaNoWriMo? Ready for November?

So much stuff and now time for a little WIPpet Wednesday!

The creation of K.L. Schwengel, where writers post a bit of their WIP on Wednesday to a Blog Hop (CLICK HERE) to visit the other WIPpeteers. By using today's date you share a snippet and give a little background on the piece. Today is 10/28 so lets do 2 + 8 = 10 paragraphs from the beginning of Modern Muses (working title). Here we meet Thalos and what was doing at the top of the novel and a little bit of Teri.

A man bounced a tennis ball against the ground as he heard shouts from the field. “That’s fifteen – love, mate.” The guy on the further end of the courts called to his partner.

“Okay, my serve then,” and he reach up just in time to miss the ball and as he ran to catch it his laces which were now loose and sprawled out across the court. He did a tuck and roll, but still managed to bang his head on the fence.

“You okay mate?” his friend called.

“Yeah, just cracked my head that’s all.” Everyone else on the nearby courts eyes the event unfolding, some even chuckle a bit, but most turned back to what they were doing when the young man slowly stood up.

They were supposed to laugh, Thalos thought. Why didn’t they? He thought it was funny.

What people didn’t see was that the man, Thalos was laughing and moving his pointer finger as the young man had skidded into the concrete, dropping his racket as the ball went out of bounds and bumping his head. Thalos wiped tears of mirth from his eyes, “Oh that’s good…” as he mentally checked off points about the young man’s fall.

“I thought you were in charge of inspiring the lighter side of poetry, comedy, and mirth.”

“I am,” said Thalos who now stood, dropping the tennis ball into his draw string bag. “I am just sitting here minding my own business. Doing some research for one of my…um, charges.”

“Right….Thalos. You think I was born yesterday.” The voice belonged to a short and thin girl, who looked much younger than Thalos. She was certainly clean in appearance. “You’re a bum, Talo.”

He hated that nickname. It made him think of candle, “What’s it to you, Teri?” Thalos said ignoring Teri and walking past a girl who was wearing black yoga pants and a purple spaghetti strap top with some brand name store across her meager chest.

Wednesday is...

It's a Wednesday, yes it is. And again, I seemed to have almost forgot about it. Almost because it's not 11:00 at night. So, that's good. NaNoWriMo has been done for a few days and I am waiting before I work on the revisions. I am still not sure how I am going to do it. I'm gotten some advice and watched some video blogs on the subject matter. Still not sure. I know i want to actually work on revising this sucker. I have worked too hard to not make a solid attempt at revising, rewriting, and then moving into the seek out publisher. I have a long way to go before then, but it's time to try it. I also have two other novels to do this with. Oy!

Anyway, today is really low key. I have been staying low key for the last couple of days.. It's December and I need to work on Christmas now. Funny each year I am living, I find that time passes much faster than when I was a kid. why is last, Dear Readers?

Time for the ROW80 check-in!

This Week:
*Writing: This week I have been working on dialogue for the the KLP Xmas show that week put on every holiday season for Hammondport's Christmas in the Park. If you don't know where Hammondpsort, NY is, then you are missing out. A quaint little town in the Finger Lake Region of New York State, on the shores of Keuka Lake. It was voted America's "Coolest Small Town" in 2012. I do a bit of theatre up in this area.
*Reading: finally moving on Maddaddam (Margaret Atwood), almost halfway.
*Social Media/Visiting: I have returned to my daily goals. I went and visiting 8 blog yesterdays (for Monday and Tuesday).

To Work On (going to stick with three goals this week):
*Editing: this has been pushed back constantly, because of other project. I am going to get to it before Round's End. I swear I will!
*Blogging: 1 new blog this week (not counting ROW80 check-ins).
*Goals: going to make the most of the rest of this Round.

Also, Round a Words is a Blog Challenge that knows you have a life. Check out the Blog Hop. See what we are all up to.

Still in my two weeks of theatre craziness. If I seem a bit befuddled, that would be why. I have a Christmas Tree up (alas don't have a picture to post, yet). I feel like I should be writing, Dear Readers. I have seen others comment on the NaNo withdrawal, other call it mourning, some are glad for the break. What are you up to post NaNo, pre-holidays, snow or no? Me, working on the shopping part, trying to get done before it get too late, getting yuletide cards on the mail, and other holiday prep work. Feeling cheerier than some, but also a little overwhelmed. No real happy medium this month it seems.

Ah well! Have a great week, Dear Readers!

Post Thanksgiving Progress

Today's been a quiet day and the end of November. NaNoWriMo will be over in 5 hours and I am done. Well, I still have a bit more to write, but I hit 50393 words on Friday. It was the first time that I finished NaNo early.

It was very exciting to hit the 50000+ mark on November 29th! There was much happy dancing and back patting. So, I sat back and enjoyed visiting with my Dad and Aunt. Have some exciting this weekend, see below for greater details.

It'll be December tomorrow, the year is winding down and feeling good. Yet,  I am really surprised that the year has gone as fast as it has. I've been busy, maybe busier than normal. 2014 I keep busy. But, when I look back on it I am pleased with myself and how much I have accomplished. Much more to be done though; writing and editing and then get the writing out there, but it's been a grand ride overall.

Now, I have decorating to do, holiday specials to watch, yuletide cards to make/send, shopping/wrapping to do, and love to spread. It's been a good year.

The holidays used to make me grumpy. I had a few bad years some time ago, but over the last couple I have  found my happy, been inspired, found a good group of people to love and be loved me, and make my life something to be proud of. I spread the love, even when the world hands me lemons, I will persevere.

Get ready to enjoy my tribute to December as I make holiday magic in theatre and with words, Dear Readers. I have some new ideas for blogs and stories. I will find a way to fit them into the month. I always do.

This week:
*Writing: wrote over 4000 words on Friday. Completed NaNoWriMo, The Real Road Trip. Also this The Real Road Trip. And for a LONG TERM GOAL, I want to work on Tale of Memories and All of Those Goodbyes, my past NaNo novels, 2011 and 2013. Not expecting work on those until Spring at the earliest.
weekend I met with Allison, my friend from way back, fellow writer, and NaNoWriMo writer angelgal3276 (on twitter) and hashed out some details about my novel that I will work on with my January revisions. In January, between rehearsal for CSCT's spring show, Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap and surviving the winter, I will be revising
*Reading: plugging through MaddAddam (Margaret Atwood) and The Art of Asking (Amanda Palmer). I read Friday for a bit, but nothing else. Will pick back up on reading either before bed tonight or in the morning.

There really wasn't much going on this weekend, just traveling to Fredonia and eating turkey (actually Cornish game hens) at my Dad's with my aunt. It was a quiet and restful weekend.

To work on this week (Now that I have SOME more free time):
*Editing: working on editing The Audition. Finally. I will have some time to look at this. Felt bad that this got pushed on the back burn, but time weight for no NaNo.
       *Submitting: 3 submissions this week.
*Visiting: get back into 3 to 4 blog visits per day .
*Theatre Stuffs: Working on the H'port Xmas show (in 2 weeks), Holiday Improv in Watkins on Friday, and begin to gather my Mousetrap audition materials for auditions in 2 weeks. Whatever doesn't kill me, right? :-)
*Blogging: once a week (in addition to Round of Words updates). I like the ROW80 check-in, keeps me in line and connects  me to others.

Almost missed Wednesday...

Yeah, I am writing this at 11:49 pm EST. I seem to have forgotten A Round of Words in 80 Days, a Blog

Hop. Going to get this clocked in before midnight. It's been a week. Yes, a week! I started getting the H'port Xmas Show together with Sara and David (goes up December 13th). I met with my set designer, I have my audition dates for The Mousetrap (December 14th, 15th, and 16th) and show dates now. So happy to do directing another show. Improv show to be built in the coming days (goes up December 5th). Again, this is what I do.

I have been going since the beginning of the year with theatre projects. And then there are the writing projects. Yeah, I'm crazy, but it's what I do.

This week:
*Writing: been keeping pace with NaNoWriMo. I'm at 43,377 words. The story feels reals and maybe a little autobiographical in parts. I guess that happened sometimes.
*Reading: I finished The Year of the Flood (Margaret Atwood) and started MaddAddam (also Margaret Atwood). I am so hooked. The books are good, that is all I can say. There is a realism and a truthfulness to the present world in them that is scary, but intriguing.

To work on:
*Writing: finish NaNo Novel, Road Trip. Write a new short story, one seems to be brewing. Write some for the Xmas Show.
*Blogging: been slack on these, hoping to dedicate more time to this next week.
*Reading: Finish MaddAddam before The Mousetrap auditions and The Art of Asking (Amanda Palmer).
*Editing: work on The Audition re-write.
*Submitting: Get on this for next week.

It's been a busy week, some stuff fell to the back burner, while others were the focal point. I feel good overall. Theatre was created last week, more to be birthed in the coming weeks. A road trip to visit my Dad and Aunt this week (after working Black Friday, it'll be slow, trust me I don't work retail). Christmas is soon! Wow, the year 2014 is over, well almost over. Time to make the lat of it as awesome as the rest of it.

Have a fantastic week, Dear Readers!

Sunday it is...

Having one of those days, really bad headache and feeling generally icky, but still I persevere

Yesterday was the Hammondsport edition of 24 Hour Theatre. We had a great crowd of about twenty people. They are active and engaging, which is a great feeling to hear people who are responsive. The writers wrote some incredible works and the actors made them come to life. A good time for all.

Of course, while writing this I got another rejection letter for some of my poetry. It's a journal I have submitted to before. They give constructive critiques of my submissions. That is good, but I still feel like I am missing something. I thought I was getting better with my poetry. I know, I should take it hard. Most places don't give input on why they didn't choose my work. I am mostly being hard on myself. I just need to keep trying and keep the advise and input in mind when I submit works.

So, that happened.

This week:
*Theatre: I directed and starred in one show, also hoad a small cameo in anther show for 24 Hour Theatre.
*Writing: caught up on NaNo Novel, Road Trip Friday, almost 5000 words in one day. I didn't write yesterday because of 24 Hour Threatre, but I have clocked 1721 words today. Will catch up tomorrow morning. Feeling novel swinging into the homestretch. NaNoWriMo: draconicwitch (if you want to add me)
*Reading: The Year of the Flood (Margaret Atwood) I can't put it down, will probably have it done by Thanksgiving. The Art of Asking (Amanda Palmer), I am enjoying this immensely, with her truths and humour.
*Submitting: two poems submitted to a local calendar contest for the Friends of the Chemung Watershed. Deadline  is December 1st. I won't know about this until much later, but I am pleased with the poems and myself for trying.

This week To Do:
*Writing: Continue to catch up and stay caught up with NaNo.
*H'port Xmas show begins to organize this week, so writing will be on and off for this project based on what idea (there are three working concepts to choose from) is chosen.
*Submitting: want to keep this at three per week.
*Reading: finish The Year of the Flood and start MaddAddam (Margaret Atwood).

A Round of Words is a Blog Hop. Come and visit with other writers/bloggers.

Have a great week, Dear Readers! :-)

Quietly Positive and Epic

It's funny how when you finally open yourself up to other writers, it not as painful. I guess I was always worried about receiving criticism, whether constructive or not. OctPoWriMo gave me a chance to share my words, my poetry, and my writing with like minded people. Now it's NaNoWriMo! Writing unleashed.

I have seen a good many ROW80-ers and other fellow blogger posting WIP snippets, and I figured since I am NaNo-ing and ROW80-ing that I would post a snippet. It's nice to get honest criticism on something you are working on. Thank you to Beth Camp, Denise D. Young, and Shan Jeniah Burton for a bit o' insight, go and check them out.

I feel rejuvenated. I think I will be posting more snippets.

Anywhoo, onto the ROW80 update. It's been a fairly  quiet and productive week. The day job is slowing down and my winter theatre projects are not happening yet, just some prep work for the Improv show and Mousetrap auditions. More theatre stuff happening in December. this week is also the 2nd of KLP's 24 Hour Theatre events. Theatre created in 24 hours. I am not writing this time, which is fine, I like a break. Not that NaNo gives me much of a break. It's also what I do! Will be directing and acting this Saturday, in between writing, writing, and more writing. :-)

ALLONS-Y!

This week:
*Writing: I am please with the progress on Road Trip, although the title is less about the actual road trip, but a new title is being elusive. I am still behind on my word count, but making my way long the path of the writer and NaNo-Land. I did surpass 25,000 words. So, that is something. Last years novel practically wrote itself, this year has not been linear. It has been very Wibbley Wobbley (it's a Whovian thing).
*Submitting: last night I managed to submit Crying Mascara to 2 journals. I think another edit is do. But, am still trying with the current version.
*Reading: I am plowing through The Year of the Flood (Margaret Atwood). I am hooked. Every available time I am devoting to it. Working my way through The Art of Asking (Amanda Palmer) as well.
*Social Media/Visiting: am back to my 3 to 4 blogs visits and keeping up with Twitter/Facebook.

Goals:
*Writing: get caught up on NaNo word count.
*Submitting: submit to at least one more journal this week.

A Round of Words in 80 Days is a Blog Hop where you can meet other like minded and fun people and their works. Stop by for a visit!

Some working music from my little radio.

Good Week, Productive Week

Been a pretty great weekend over all! Got to see some friends perform their little hearts out. The students of Corning Community College theatre company, "Muse Afire" did a fantastic production of Jekyll and Hyde. The young man who played Jekyll/Hyde, wow, the dedication and the work on the Confrontation number, it was pretty awesome. Everyone was amazing and I am very proud of my young friends who got to perform is such a show. Also, there was Centre Stage Community Theatre production of A Delicate Balance. While not what I was expecting-I found it a bit wordy-but the cast pulled it off. They were what made the show for me. Very proud of my friend Dale, who has grown since doing the Odd Couple, many moons ago (2009, I think). He has grown as an actor, playing Tobias I was floored by his portrayal. This is why I do and am part of community theatre. I love to get the chance to see people shine and to  help people shine.

Cheers to the casts of Jekyll and Hyde and A Delicate Balance.

Remember to my NaNoWriMo novel...

This week have found me catch up on a lot of things, and after a full weekend last weekend, I really need to.Road Trip. Here's a bit of what I wrote today. Pretty pleased with the stories progress. Was worried that I would run out of story before 50K, but still going strong, just behind. Write  1,854 words today. Road Trip is the working title, that might change.

I have spend a better part of the day cleaning my house and writing for my NaNoWriMo novel,

“I know we are late Mar.” She was juggling her purse and a plat e of cookies. “I was trying to rush. I had to finish your father his favourite cookies.” Marcie nodded. “I thought I would ask if he could have one tonight, as a treat.”

The two of them struggled out of the elevator and down the hall to the hospice wing. Marcie was carrying some flowers from Martin’s co-workers, they had stopped by earlier to give Sophia and Marcie the flowers. It had sent Marcie’s mother over the edge for twenty minute, adding to their lateness. She was also carrying, her bookbag, and an umbrella. It was a mess and very rainy, also making them late.

Marcie knew what waited for her, while her mother was blissfully unaware. And that made it harder somehow.

“Where are you going?” called a nurse at the nurse’s station. Sophia stopped and turned, no one had stopped her before. They always had let her go back to Martin’s room. She must have been new, her grey hair pinned back, making her wrinkled skin stretch across her face like a shrunken head.

“Just going to Martin LaCroix’s room, we brought him some cookies.” She smiled and held out the tray, offering her a cookie.

“Sorry, but you cannot go back there. Martin has been moved.” The lines on the old nurse face criss-crossed and made her look trollish and mean.

“Moved? Did something happen? Is his in ICU?” The look of worry to panic crossed Sophia’s face.

“No. He passed last night. Sometime after you and your daughter left.” The wrinkles made the word tumble out and fall to the floor of the nurse’s station. “Sorry for your loss…” but the words just blurred together. Sophia started to cry and Marcie just felt numb. Her mother stumbled down the hall to the nearest waiting room chair.

This week:
*Reading: Finished Oryx and Crake (Margaret Atwood), started The Year of the Flood (Margaret Atwood), been working on The Art of Asking (Amanda Palmer).
*Writing: I have hit the daily goal of 1667 words a day since Wednesday. Still behind where I should be, but I am continuing. I am going to hit 50k and by months end, by Hell or High Water. Total word count: 22,179
.
To continue work on:
*Editing: since I am getting in a more consistent writing rhythm, I am going to work on The Audition this week. My slightly on the back burner 1 act. Maybe only a little, but I am going to return to it. I want a finished re-draft by rounds end.
*Blogging: with some more brain power returning, I am going to make this a priority this week. I have a 'One Lovely Blog" award to respond to, complements of the beautiful and talented Jessica Scott.
*Submitting: this is also on the docket for this week. A solemn promise to get 3 out this week.

I'm participating in A Round of Word sin 80 Days. Check out the Blog Hop to see what us writers/bloggers are up to. I am getting back on the horse, bike, roller skates and getting back on  track. What a ride this Round. How are your goals, Dear Readers (if you are doing AROW80, or not)? What's on the agenda this week?

Been on a Roy Orbison kick lately. One of my favourites. Enjoy!

NaNo and theatre: The Crazy Life!

Afternoon, Dear Readers! I am going to make this really short, as I didn't write up my Round of Words check-in this morning. I have my final tech rehearsal tonight and we open Friday! w00t. Some days are like that, not enough time and everything is going on. It's been full week to say the least, even with my swiss cheesed memory (I watched a bit too much Quantum Leap in my youth and had a crush on Scott Bakula in the day. But, who didn't, right?).

NaNoWriMo has been going on for about a week. It's an amazing and frustrating month of highs and lows. The raw passion of writing, the organic flow of the words, concepts, and grey matter. But it is also filled with writer's block, procrastination, and internal character's not speaking. We, as writer's are familiar with this, but we love the craziness, the joy, and exhilaration.

Anyway, this week is proving to be full of challenges. I do like challenges. But, I am running on too little sleep and too much stimuli (or not enough coffee or too much coffee). I am taking one step at a time this week

This week:
*Writing: since Sunday I have written over 1000 a day, yesterday's word count was 1745 words, in about 2 hours. I am always surprised when the story starts unraveling.
*Blogging: submitted 1 blog this week, poetry based.
*Reading: been digging through Oryx and Crake (Margaret Atwood). It's a very engaging book. Now I have the whole MaddAddam trilogy, so I can finish the series (which I didn't know existed earlier this year).
*Social Media/Visiting: A little lax on visiting since Sunday, but I am making it work. Visiting when I can and interacting with my tweets and peeps.

To work on:
*Submitting: always in work. I have some contests suggested to me that need to get on the list of places to submit. Looking to make this happen after November 9th.
*Editing : The Audition. This will happen after November 9th, when I get a bit more free time after Life and Adventures of Santa Claus is over.

A Round of Words in 80 Day Blog Hop starts here. Come over for a visit!

Lots of writing this weekend!

I am spending the day at home.

Why, might you ask?

Well, first off, it's rainy and cold!

And second, I have been super busy with rehearsal's for Best Little Whorehouse in Elmira. Go check it out if you are local! But, also, this weekend in the Keuka Lake Players "24 Hour Theatre". Where in the course of 24 hours, 5 shows are written, directed, and performed! Sounds amazing, right? You bet it is! And for the writer in me, I am all a-go to write one of these scripts. Having penned three 1 acts in to last couple of years, which is a pleasure to have done. It is giving me the chance to stretch my creative muscles. Last year (September 2012) was the first year I wrote a play and got to see it performed, twice actually. Once at 24 Hour Theatre, then the second at a 1 act festival for Mother's Day weekend (2013). Talk about the most AMAZINGLY AWESOME feeling EVER!!!!

Since then, I have penned two other (1 newly written a few weeks ago) 1 acts and working on a third as I type this. KLP has put on this '24 Hour Theatre' for three years now. Last year, I included my own 24 Hour Theatre with the Lake Country Players, with a delightful degree of success (I am planning next years already). So, now that world knows about this extremely fun and low cost fundraiser, the word is spreading.

So, this year I am staying home from work to write my 1 act, because I have an IMPORTANT dance rehearsal tonight and my gracious and sexy friend Sara, who is coordinating this event is letting me early. YAY! I am also directing one of the shows, not my own, thankfully!

The scripts need to be written and emailed to Sara by 4 am tomorrow morning (the other writers start at 6:00 tonight). While tomorrow morning dawns, the directors meet at 7:00 to get their scripts and prepare for the actors arrival at 8:00. Then it's rehearse, rehearse, REHEARSE until 5:45 when the show starts.

I am a bit nervous this year, partly because I am doing things out of order this year; and also I am trying to write more of a light comedy, instead of just drama, or suspense, as I have in the past. But what comes out, will be: Que Sera Sera. In about 2 hours I got a 7 page script, but I am not completely satisfied until I can read it again, find the mistakes, and weak points (without anyone's help), and refresh and revise it. I am also writing Toasted Cheese's Mini-NaNo's contest this month. A 5,000 words challenge gearing up for NaNoWriMo in November. I have to write at least 167 words a day until I hit 5,000 words or finish the story (but it has to be at least 5,000 words). Plus, I am revising a 1 act I wrote at my friend Amelia's 62 Hours of Art fest back in August.

All this and rehearsals for Whorehouse! No rest for the wicked!

I should go and review the script. Later internet! Leave me a Comment or some Love below:

NaNoWriMo 2013 - It's getting close!!!!

Ever wanted to write a novel, but were afraid? Didn't know where to start? Or what to write about?

Fear not!

Some of my favourite novels!

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo 2013) is coming up this November! What is National Novel Writing Month?. Well, it's a place where you can participate in the novel writing contest. It's free, although they gladly accept donation to help there website and other program to keep running.

It's easy, just go  to NaNoWriMo's website. There you can sign up and create a profile. When November 1st rolls around you start writing. You clock your number of words you write each day, the goal is to reach 50,000 words by November 30th, but not limited by only 50,000 words. The breakdown by day is about 1300 (to 1400) words per day, roughly). it can be about anything, any genre, any topic. It's a great adventure in writing with literary zealotry! I pushed myself, even when I wasn't sure I would make 50,000 words. I had support from fellow NaNo writers: Vickie, Becky, and Allison. It an amazing feeling to write and write and after a month see a complete novel. i still have my first one. I have  plan to try to revise it and maybe self-publish it and see if people are interested in it.

I am not one to always have an idea to write about, but if I am in need of writing prompts to help boost  the creative juices, I go to Toasted Cheese Literary Journal. Often I just write without purpose, with a reckless abandon, and that has worked to my benefit; but I have also wrote and not gotten anywhere. That's okay too! Sometimes a false start is just a slight sidetrack to the real story.

I did not get to NaNo last year due to directing and stuffs, but the plans are in the works to do it this year. I am excited. So very excited!! Been stockpiling little ideas, places, names for inclusion in this years novel. Might try a light science fiction novel this year. I have hang ups about writing Sci-fi/Fantasy, I start out great, but then get too caught up in the details and forget that I have a plot to focus on. What NaNoWriMo did for me, I can barely put into words. It goes something like this. When you do NaNo you end up putting your fears and doubts aside to the benefit of the story being told, your character will come to life and start tell you their story.

So, we shall see! Hope to see you there!! My name on NaNo is draconicwitch, look me up. I also tweet about my writing, so check out my twitter draconicwitch. Check out my writing page on Facebook at Here, There be a Writer.

here's a little from today's writing exercise: "Drop what you’re doing and write for 15 minutes! Go!"

She was sitting in the living room bay window. The sky, she noticed, was a pale grey, nit quite a slate, but not white either and there seems to be very little breeze. She sighed a deep sigh. Here sketch book was next to her, but the ambition seemed to have disappeared. There didn’t seemed to be a thing moving outside, not a bird, nor breeze.

“Nothing seems to be alive out there,” she mumbled to herself, as she scanned the landscape, nary a bush or tree moved. It felt like there was an oncoming storm, but the air smell of freshly cut lawn and of corn from the fields across the road. “Today would be better if I cared,” she said to the old grey Persian that was also sitting on the window seat. She turned her head out to the outside again, “there’s Uncle Oedipus. He must have finished the mowing.” She paused, the ennui seemed to over take her, turning to the cat, “really Misty, I guess there is nothing to do but sit here and stare out the window.” Misty, the Persian glanced at the girl and let out a wide yawn and blinked, “yeah, I feel the same way,” as she also yawned. “I probably should go help uncle Oedipus with the yard work, but really…” she leaned back against the window, “I just don’t care…’ turning back out to the yard.

Oedipus was hauling out a large basket with a great deal of effort. He was struggling to free it from the shed. There seemed to be a fishing pole caught on the lip of the basket that was also dragging a garden hose with it. The girl watched as Oedipus struggled, she seems bored. When sudden Oedipus dropped the basket and tried to walk away, but only ended up tripping, with the girl watching the tangled interplay. “Looks like he’s gonna fall…”

“You might want to go help me,” a voice said in her ear. She turned abruptly to Misty, who just blinked and turned her head to look out the window.

“Who said that?” The girl whipped around; there was no one else in the living room. She turned back to the window just in time to see Oedipus stumble and start to fall. “Uncle Oedipus!” she called, arms reaching out, and she saw Oedipus freeze in position, in mid fall. “Crap!” she muttered, and then stopped to see that Oedipus was frozen in mid tumble. “Wait! What the hell?” Blinking back her vision she saw that indeed her uncle was frozen in mid fall. “Misty? She asked, “How did I do that?” she said looking at the cat who seemed clearly intent on a fly buzzing around her head. “Wait! How is it that I’m moving and the fly is moving, but not Uncle Oedipus?”

“Are you gonna stand there all day, Young Lady?” the voice returned.

“Uncle Oedipus?” The girl stood looking out the window at her uncle, who was not moving, but she clearly heard him say…

“Child, I appreciated that to stopped my fall, but I cannot hold this position much longer.”

“Uncle Oedipus, is that you?” The girl placed a hand on the window pane, as she stared at her uncle.

“Who else would it be, Walela? Now kindly let me go, so I can fall and get it over with.”

“But Uncle, if I do, you will fall…”

“Not now, Walela, as soon as you let me go, I can tuck into a roll and avoid an injury.”

“But, Uncle how am I to let you go…” Walela said, “And how am I am talking to you?” turning away from the window to star at the Persian, who was now dozing in the pale sun light.

“Walela, you are the one that stopped me; you have to be the one to release me.”

Still stunned by this recent event, Walela, turned to the window and stared at her uncle, confused, she was at a loss for what to do. She pointed her finger at her uncle and said, “Let him go,” and waved her finger. Nothing happened.

“Walela, what are you doing? This is not your Harry Potter mumbo jumbo! Release me, this instance! My calf muscles are tensing up,” chided Oedipus.

“Okay, Uncle.” Walela was confused and began freak out. She turned back to her uncle and whispered “move.” Oedipus became mobile and she watched as he tucked into a ball and rolled out of the way of the tangle of basket, fishing pole, and hose. She turns and runs toward the door trying to thinking clearly about what just happened.

“Thank you Walela,” said Oedipus.
