Z is for Zebra (On Beyond)

What lies beyond Zebra? Past the letter Z? There appears to be a whole new branch of critters that exist solely beyond the letter Z and zebra.

On Beyond Zebra written by Dr. Seuss always fascinated me with the strange creatures and the strange letters that looked sort of like runes, or the ogham alphabet. That was before I knew what the ogham alphabet was. I think I imagined trying to write sentences with these new letters, I don't  was successful in this venture.

There were a few books of Dr. Seuss that feature new creatures, from On Beyond Zebra, If I Ran the Zoo, and If I Ran the Circus are the main ones that featured undiscovered creatures. But the thin about many Dr. Seuss books is that there was usual an animal, or place with a strange and ever-long/how-do-you-pronounce that name in the stories. I definitely remember the names, and certainly imagining what those places looked like, beyond the actually stories.

What are your favourite Seussian creatures from any of the books? Leave me a comment below, Dear Readers.

Beyond the Known

When striking the last line
at the bottom of the letter Zed.
You should know there is a lot more than
what you already know.

At the bottom of the letter Zed,
there is a letter called a Yuzz.
What you already know
about life after Zebra?

There is a letter called a Yuzz,
the beginning of the 'after Z safari,'
about life after Zebra,
and all of the things that exist.

The beginning of the 'after Z safari'
will surprise you with it's diversity
and all of the things that exist,
beyond what you know.

Will surprise you with it's diversity
and maybe some rhyming,
beyond what you know;
maybe even want to know them all.

And maybe some rhyming
as you begin to explore the terrain,
maybe want to know they all,
like some sort of game.

As to begin to explore the terrain,
you should know there is a lot more;
like some sort of game
when striking the last line.

Reverse Poem and another NaPoWriMo comes to a close...

It now surprises me that NaPoWriMo is all but over. I feel just a little sad that tomorrow I will not have a daily prompt to write a poem, but that doesn't mean I can't write daily. I have had some challenges with muses, prompts, and time. Between the A to Z challenge and the theatre projects, I have written 30 poems. I also need to give a huge thanks to the Poets Three (the musketeers) for reading and enjoying my poems, giving awesome encouragement. Thank you, Guys!

I got to know Jesi and Rod during OctPoWriMo last year, I met Lizzi on this go around of NaPoWriMo. We have become quite the tight group. These three are some of my closest internet friends. I love them in the whole of my soul, and hope that we stay close after this month has faded into the history books. For today I thought I would use one the last poems from my OctPoWriMo titled Imaging the End. This wasn't a strong piece, more back then, a bit of a reflective piece more than anything. But, when I sat down in the final hours of this month, I realized that I had something that I could work with.

And now for our final prompt (still optional!). For the last day of NaPoWriMo, I’d like you to try an odd little exercise that I have had good results with. Today, I challenge you to write a poem backwards. Start with the last line and work your way up the page to the beginning. Another way to go about this might be to take a poem you’ve already written, and flip the order of the lines and from there, edit it so the poem now works with its new order. This will probably feel a bit strange (and really, it is a bit strange), but it just may help you see the formal “opening” and “closing” strategies of your poems in a new way!

I had some fun, placing the lines in reverse order and then editing it into a new poem. I think it works better and comes off stronger. What do you think, Dear Readers?

Original:
Imaging the End

On the day before
Never could I believe

That I have made it through the month.
Here is the proof that in the words I write, that
Everyday I made the choice

Daring that I could write everyday, a poem.
Always using the prompts given (which was a choice),
Yet, I managed, within the sometimes daily writer's block.

Before there was an idea and
Even when there wasn't.
First, I would think
Of the possible outcomes then
Really set to write, free verse or haiku until
Everything suddenly fell into place.

Reverse Ending Rewrite:
Reverse Ending

Suddenly--
fell into place
set to write,
   free verse
        or
        haiku
Of the possible outcomes then?

First,
I would think of the end.
Even when there wasn't--
   before there was an idea
within writer's block.

Using the prompts
(which was a choice),
Daring everyday,
      a poem.

Everyday,
a choice
     the proof
        in the words I write
                   this month.

Z is for Zombie Prom

Tomorrow is our Zompre Prom, a fundraiser for our show and an actual prom, with streamers, balloons, and a floral arch for pictures. I never went to my high school prom. I probably missed out. But,  now I get a chance to enjoy a prom with my closest heatre friends and (quite possibly) have a more awesomer time thsn in high school. I even have a date!!!

SMILE...
...Pictures or it didn't happen!

I promise!!

If you are curious and our in the Corning/Bath area May 29th and 30th, you should come and see Zombie Prom at Bath Haverling's auditorium. It's a fun story about love and zombies. Enough said! And it's a musical too!!

Been learning songs about Rules, Regulations, and Respect; the news beat; and Enrico Fermi High. Dancing and singing, being around my theatre family, and so much more. It's been a full spring already! But again, I would have it any other way.

Last Day, Last Stand: Farewell Poetry and some ZZZZZzzzzzzzzz's

It's been a Zany, Zooey, and yet Zestful (A to Z Challenge) month of blogging and experimenting. I made it! I did! Now, it's time to finish up, wrap up, and look to exploring some new friends and fellow blogger/writers, who have stopped by to visit. The Tempest is over and I am feeling sad. The final poem for NaPoWriMo is a Farewell Poem, a poem saying goodbye to the friends of this months both Theatre and Writing. I have had some pretty awesome moments and some struggles, and a failure, but it's been great, awesome even.

I attempted Camp NaNoWriMo, but with my theatrical schedule and the blog challenges, I feel behind. I don't regret it, because if I never try, then how will I know. Also, I have about 18,000 word head start on November's NaNo. There is always a silver lining. I recommend NaNo, whether April's Camp NaNoWriMo or November's. It's a liberating challenge and lots of fun when you have the time to devote to it.

I am going to work on my short stories, and revisions of completed works, while I do the A to Z Reflections
post, and visit other friends/writer's blog (leaving comments and such). Get connected and stay connected! I'm going to work on making my blog the best it can be and write, write, and write! There are a number of other little projects, but I will post about them as they are completed.

Remember to check out the Blog Hop for A Round of Words in 80 Days!

Dear Readers, thank you for coming to visit my little space on the interwebs. And now, I give you my final bows....

Final Curtain

It's time to say Goodbye,

The story has come to an end,
The final curtain bow,
The encore is finished.

Oh, the stories we'll tell,
The adventures
And mishaps
And the favourite moments.
Theatre is like a family,
But so can an online
Community.
There are laughs
And tears,
Struggles and triumphs.
The best are the ones shares.

While the fanfare is dying--

The lights begin to fade,
I can see the now empty theatre
With its solid echoes
Ringing against the walls
And my ear drums.

The last poem is written--
The last alphabet blog typed clean.

I feel just a little bit saddened
That these moments are sliding away from me.

Many times,

I have complained
Many times,
I struggled to make
The deadlines--
Yet always did I.

The play maybe over,
The blog challenge
Complete,
But only onto the next project
Is what I seek.
