OctPoWriMo: The Final Sprint! (Days 30 and 31)
I finished with 17 minutes to spare. Not really sure I ended the way I wanted, as I write the last 2 weeks of poems in haiku. It was fun, but I was hoping for more of a challenge. Though maybe with everything else the haiku was the better option. It did give me a chance to improve my haiku skillz. So, not a loss...
Enjoy!
Day 30 - Diary (Haiku)
Written words hide away,
I tell them to none, but me--
My sister still reads.
~~~~~
Day 31 - Goodbye Train (Haiku)
Loading up the train,
My vision, cloudy from tears--
Next time take the bus.
OctPoWriMo Day 29: Still On Track
Still writing haiku? You bet, Dear Reader!
~~~~~~~~
Day 29 - Paris (Haiku)
Dreams of Paris-serie
Wish I could say that
I traveled to your city--
The Champs-Elysees.
But no, I cannot
Boast such lofty adventures
Though I wish for it.
Viewing the lights glow,
Smelling the patisserie’s
Fare that is baked fresh.

OctPoWriMo Days 25 thru 28 (finally a day early): Haiku Around
Day 25 - Circle (Haiku)
Wrapping around you
See the path, walk on, Stranger,
And around you go.
~~~~~~
Day 26 - Heart/Aural (Haiku)
Beat, Beat, pounding beat
I can hear it rumble under--
Lub dub, Lub dub, Lub…
~~~~~~~
Day 27 - Wish/Wait (Haiku)
Anticipation--
Breathing in and waiting for
A moment to come.
~~~~~~
Day 28 - Tea (Haiku)
Feel heat, emanate
From porcelain to clay cups--
With cream only, please.
OctPoWriMo Day 24: When I Almost Missed It...
The title says it all. A haiku before midnight keeps the muse at bay...
Day 24 - Balance/Load (Haiku)
Upon gilded scales
You can find out, unbalanced.
Is better to know.
OctPoWriMo: Day 23 & 24 (Trials and Tribulations)
I defaulted to of state of haiku, which I fall into when I don't feel motivated. When I procrastinate? Sometimes. Haiku is a really easy form for me, not just because it only requires a 5-7-5 syllable structure, but it is easy it pare down my thoughts into said haiku. I could not say this a few years ago, when all the words seems to want to come out, dance across the paper. Now I find that sometimes i like less words, as long as they have a proper meaning to what I want to say.
Today's poetic fare is very of this type of thinking. Simply, I took the words that most resonated with me and transformed them into lyrical art. Enjoy!
Day 23-
Prompt: Dream
There is a moment
Where dreams become like fog
Incorporeal.
Day 24-
Prompt: Procrastination
It starts with a lack
Of movement, of desire
To not accomplish.
OctPoWriMo: Days 11 and 12
Day 11 - Prompt: Letter to my Muse / Poetic Form: Didactic Poem
Letter to My Muse
Dear Muse,
Write--
grant me the words
to compose the sonnets
that graces my loves ears.
Create--
something out of nothing,
you know the drill,
with pen and paper
out down the needed script.
Birth--
with labour pains no one else gets
contractions of nouns and verbs
breaths of adjectives
to still even the jauntiest of adverbs.
Make something--
that didn't exist before
something that a writer
can be proud of.
Sincerely,
A Writer
Day 12 - Prompt: Silliness / Poetic Form: Haiku (I am not too keen on the forms today, so I am doing an old standby favourite)
Post Office Steps
Remember the steps
The sound I made when I fell down--
that's right, you're laughing.
Been having trouble staying on task this month, and I am a little disappointed that I not not trying more forms. It is still early, maybe I can make something of it by mid month. Or maybe I need to aim my focus on a bit of spoopy Halloween goodness? Maybe a bit of both? I am not sure. It feels that when I get a foothold on something stable, well then the carpet gets pulled out from under me. It is all a long story, nothing to bore you with. I have been struggling, pretty hardcore this month. I do like some of my output, just feeling like I am not giving it a complete chance.
Do you ever feel like that, Dear Readers? Leave me a comment, and thank you!
OctPoWriMo Day #28: (split in two)
When At The Fork You Come To
Make me choose, you say
To cross the broken bridge there,
maybe I won't go.
No where do I feel
safe that was long since lost to
dilemmas now here.
When I once knew why,
The schism of my world
Has left me alone.
To forge ahead that
Which I have long since reclaimed,
No more split in two.
OctPoWriMo Day #26: (inside out)
So, I usually will write a sonnet if prompted, but today read super busy, and a lot of stuff is going. To say that it is bad or good, I cannot decide. There has been a goodly amount of ephipanies that I can only look on these experiences fondly. Today's poem is a form that I have grown to love and it speaks volumes. Please, enjoy, Dear Readers.
See You
What I need now
Is to tell you how I feel
From the inside out
OctPoWriMo Day #19: (what do you want)
This month has lead me on a merry chase with my emotions and a little bit of self-discovery. Okay, maybe a lot more self-discovery, but in some ways I am happier because of it. Today's prompt felt a little like synchronicity. Like I needed to declare my intentions and then I could move forward. I've know what I wanted for a about two years, though it starts to germinate in 2011. Today's prompt makes me want to keep reaching, to not give up, and to even settle for anything.
OctPoWriMo Day #14: (if I were me)
Poetic Form: haiku
Something simple tonight. Not feeling great, but too stubborn to give up. A little uplifting words for y'all, Dear Readers.
When I'm the real me
world is suddenly bigger
I'm no longer lost.
OctPoWriMo Day #9: (love)
I really was at a loss for love tonight. It isn't for a lack of love, but it's for the small things that make us, myself included, feel loved. Today's poem is just that simple; love shown in the simplest way(s). How do you show you love someone in the simplest ways, Dear Reader? I usually buy someone their favourite coffee, with all of their favourite additions; do their dishes; give them a random present because the pig earrings remind you of them.
Just Take It
That moment when you
find there is one last donut--
they didn't eat it.
Love is taking the last donut left for you!
OctPoWriMo Day #7: (unsent letters)
Okay, with that being said (I promised myself I will do my part for this year's election), now is the time to write all those unsent letters in my head. That is probably is a really long list and I am tired today, so I will stick to the most important of letters to write. This letter is written in haiku. A simple three line poem with a metered form of 5, 7, 5; usually with a humorous or inspirational intent. i am still learning the fine art of the humorous haiku.
Today I present something that I know is so terrible important for many of us. Something that I think people are afraid to talk about. I'll be the first. Please leave me a comment on your thoughts about this serious topic. Enjoy, Dear Readers.
Upon a Shelf
Dear Lay Potato Chips,
Why is there always
a pocket of air in your bags
the size of a state?
Sincerely,
Chip Muncher
OctPoWriMo - Day 27 - Haiku (Into Room Walking)
Poetic Form: Haiku
The haiku is one that is generally about nature. It's a three lined poem that has a 5-7-5 form (five syllables, seven syllables, five syllables). A classic haiku also has a seasonal reference and has focuses on two different, but related image or ideas.
OctPoWriMo - Day 16 - Fears (When You're Chased...)
I could have taken this is a bunch of directions, but sometimes with fears you need some humour to temper the emotions. I remember back as a child, I was most afraid of things that I didn't know what they were, who a person was (what their name was), and feeling lost. If you take that and think about asking your fear (if they were people) what their name is/was, maybe your would find them less scary.
Also, there was this bit from the MTV show "The Maxx" that plays with this idea. Having Maxx's fears named Dave. So, I wrote a haiku about that. If you are curious to see what I am talking about, here's the clip I used.
Enjoy!
OctPoWriMo Day 2 - We Write Because... (Haiku Humour)
It's been a weird day between the world going to shit, and feeling very helpless, yet wanting to be productive. I ended up not very productive....and yet, I still ran after work. Good thing! The pulsing adrenaline making me feel alive. Still not thrilled with my muse today, so I take my helpless feeling and use that to write...
I am trying something new, trying to write humour--within a poem.
Poetic Form: Haiku (Extended)
Word Prompts: Write, Poetry, Muse, Inspire
Prompt: sea shells; Word Prompts: beach, ocean, shell, coast
Prompt: upside down; Word prompts: topsy turvy, vice versa, contrary, unhinged, muddled; Poetic form: Acrostic
Universal Within
Under the water, topsy turvy
Pressure building around the
Silence encasing me.
Inside, I am lost, contrary
Delveloping a complex, I guess
Even though I feel weak, life is
Daring me to try harder
Of the fears that have
Within and without--
Never will submit to being unhinged any longer.
