OctPoWriMo: My Hero (and my progress, sort of)

Somewhere between Wednesday and Sunday I missed something. I wrote my daily dose of OctPoWriMo and plans to write, I did. Thursday was a lot of Work right in Rehearsal, and then Friday was a big blur. Yesterday was my unplugged day. So, yeah, I feel less than productive, but usually after I type my check-in I feel better. Maybe today is the case. So, Dear Readers how did I measure up?

Oh, and I was introduced to American Horror Story this weekend by my beautiful friend, Kaylara. She is named (actually adapted from) after a dragon rider (Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern) and this makes my happy.

This Week:

     *Social Media: I didn't. I admit that I went visiting my blogs and sponsor duties today. But, you see when I read a blog post I want to be fully engaged and leave a incite and a positive response. so, this morning I went to my 4 dailies and my sponsor duties. I feel better. No point in wasting my negativity by not being productive, so I a, ultra productive and begin the week on a firmer footing.

      *Reading: been working my way through Dead Before Dark (Wendy Corsi Staub) a little every morning and at lunch. I also spent about 90 minutes yesterday morning reading. It is a very detailed story, so I want to be able to soak it all up. I have been slowly working on Inkheart (Cornelia Funke), only about 3 chapters in. I realized I have forgotten a number of this from the first time I read it. It's like reading it for the first time, but I am enjoying it as much as I did the first time. Definitely looking forward to watching the movie adaptation after reading the book (even if it is terrible).

      *Writing: written mostly poetry since Wednesday (about 100 - 150 words per post). A little less than my daily minimum, but I am pleased with my poetic output thus far. This week is going to be much better.

      *House tending: laundry, trash out to curb, and some dishes (still have a few more. Mostly coffee cups).

      *Theatre Stuffs: glow in the dark spike tape is ordered, rehearsals are going well (scheduling is good better), getting sponsors, waiting on the confirmation for the interview date for one of the local TV stations. 

Not bad, I missed a couple of big goals. I did not get to editing this week, nor did I post anything on Thursday. I think I need to post on Friday's instead of Thursday. I have more time on Friday's. Thursday is a rehearsal night and the last one was a long one. It is going to continue to be long as we approach tech week in two weeks! I will live, it's a fresh week, going make it count.

This (upcoming) Week:

      *Reading: finish Dead Before Dark, make progress on Inkheart. BTW, I am at 37 books out of 50 for the year's reading challenge.

      *Writing: write daily, at least 300 words. Write OctPoWriMo, and something else of my choice this week. Work on plotting (and outline) Modern Muses for NaNoWriMo.

      *Editing: devote two to three hours Tuesday to editing some of The Real Road Trip.

      *Blogging: post a poem on Tuesday, separate from the OctPoWriMo post.

      *Theatre Stuffs: report. Start set drawings and notes for crew.

      *Anything Else....

What would a pen do if it was a superhero. I am taking today's prompt and running with it. The thought occurred to me that maybe our pens, and even pencils might have a double life. Saving the day, rescuing the girl, slaying the monster? What would it be like?

My Hero

My pen,

she sits all innocent like

lying on the table

acting like I don't know.

She has a little secret,

and never's told a soul

about what she does when no one looking.

You see she's a superhero

betcha you didn't see that coming

right?

My pen is a superhero,

how do I know?

Well, ever see when the damsels in distress,

or the Antagonist has the upper hand,

or maybe when all is lost?

Have you even wondered how the day is saved?

It's my little pen.

My little ball point, BIC, blue inked pen,

she jumps into the air

when the darkness has fallen

and we are sleeping safe in our beds.

She takes to the air

flying fast as Superman, around the world

in a blast of magic 

and ink.

To the trouble she arrives,

not barely batting an eyelash,

as she set to work

writing a scene,

Where the hero arrives

maybe on a white ostrich,

is that even right?

Where the Antagonist is foiled

by a pen light at the right time.

Are you sure that's right?

Maybe there is a twist

and then she start anew with the plot.

My pen is mightier than the sword,

even when she writes about sword play.

Quick as any,

I am writing this down

when I can write her--

My hero,

 a happy ending too.

So late, so late...i need to sleep and it is not Thursday yet (glances at the clock that reads 12:20 am) Oh F#@K Nugget!! Sorry for the mild profanity. Here is Wednesday check-in....

This Week:
*Reading: continuing with my menagerie of books: Invisible Moon (James A. Owen), The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Agatha Christie), Fragile Things (Neil Gaiman), Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (Douglas Adams).
*Writing: writing blitzes Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with 700+ words on Modern Muses daily.
*Editing: 5 pages daily of The Real Road Trip. I have 19 pages to go. Home stretch!
*Social Media: visited 4 daily since Monday and visited my sponsor duties.

This (upcoming) Week:
 *Reading finish reading The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and Murder Comes Ashore (Julie Anne Lindsey).
*Writing: write daily, at least 300 words.
*Editing: finish the last 19 pages of The Real Road Trip before Saturday. Down to 14!!
*Blogging: 1 new non-ROW80 post on Thursday.
*Submission: 2 new submissions this week.

Music Man auditions start tomorrow, so that means I will be busy with auditions and trying to wrap of my goals for August. This includes finishing the reviewing edit of The Real Road Trip. So I am writing this while watching Maleficent for the first time. It is a little distracting, but wholly worth it.

Late But Not Last

It was a rather full week, but I managed to keep up with a few goals. Going to make this short, as I am posting a day late. Seem when I travel out of town, I tend to get a little behind. Do you find that to be true, Dear Readers? Going out of town, having guests over cuts into your creative time?

This Week:
     *Reading: finished The Amber Spyglass (Phillip Pullman) and The Festival of Bones (James A. Owen). Found my rhythm again, so much so that I am now reading 5 separate books. Okay, a few I just started, but yeah, gonna be a challenge to not lost my place in the stories.
      *Writing: successfully wrote writing blitzes Monday through Thursday for Modern Muses. Ended up writing a poem on Friday, but it was a poem that I meant to write last month but didn't. So I did write every during the week.
     *Editing: I have been strict on this. This is important to me to finish this review of The Real Road Trip before August is over. I edited 5 pages from Monday to Sunday. At this rate I will probably finish either a day early, of only need 2 pages on the 31st. September will be the hard part, sitting down to input the edit, re-write the parts that are crap, organize into chapters, and do up some notes (kinda late on that one).
     *Social Media: been a lot slack on this over the weekend. I still manged to catch my sponsor duties and I may go back a visit those whom I normally visit each week.
     *Got some good re-connection time when I visited Fredonia with old high friends and friends I hadn't see since the last visit.

There is so much more to work on. I always seems to feel behind on Mondays, not sure why. I mean, I know why when I am out of town, but why regular weeks in general. I need to think about this, maybe a dose of meditation one evening would help. Monday just always feel rushed and pack to bursting, even If I get my ROW80 in on time. I thing I am going to devote ROW80 Sundays to the morning, no matter where I am. Anyway, I digress...

This (upcoming) Week:
      *Reading: bound and determined to finish Murder Comes Ashore (Julie Anne Lindsey), work on The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Agatha Christie), and Invisible Moon (James A. Owen). I also have started Fragile Things (Neil Gaiman), Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (Douglas Adams). Murder Comes Ashore is part of a series of cozy mysteries featuring the counselor and part-time detective, Patience Price on Chincoteague Island.
       *Writing: write daily, at least 300 words.
       *Editing: 5 pages daily, or more. Finish review edit of The Real Road Trip.
       *Social Media: get back on the wagon with visiting 4 blog daily and on sponsor duties.
Goals I let slide, but am going to return to them this week:
       *Blogging: I really miss this. I non-ROW80 post a week should be easy. Going to find a day that I can devote to this goal. Maybe Tuesdays or Saturday (even though that's an unplugged day.
       *Submissions: 2 new submission weekly. Maybe I will do this on my blogging day.
       *Exercise: take a nice sized walk once a week with the Hubs.

My fall will be gearing up soon as Music Man auditions are this weekend (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) with the first read through on 9/10, seeing as Labour Day is a bit late this year and the director is taking her vacation that week. It'll be good. Looking forward to a new theatre project and NaNoWriMo in this fall. So much too do, but yet the days are still nice. The peepers are peeping. And I have my #OneGoodCup as I write this.

I have new challenges to try (maybe Ready, Set, Write! and WWW), and OctPoWriMo coming up soon too. Stories are flowing outta my head and feeling much more peaceful and determined about my writing and theatre passions. Planning to return to a book to movie review this October too, but movies that were turned into books. Last years book to movie review month was scattered across more of 2015 than 2014. Oh well, this year is shaping up to be much better.
