OctPoWri Mo - Day 17 - The Dragon Chose... (Minimal Dream)

The Prompt

Here's my challenge to you: Choose 50 words. Write a poem using only those words, repeating and rhyming as you see fit. You can use the words as many times as you like, but limit yourself to just the 50 words.

Not particularly please with this poem, Dear Readers. I had wanted to play with rhyme, but there didn't seem to be time. (Oh, hahaha, Dear Muse!) Taking the feel and ambiance of the fairy tale, I free versed it. There is some potential there, but it's not what I was aiming for.

I used more than 50 words and only repeated one line three times, but still I feel there is something in this poem to maybe return to after OctPoWriMo and review it.

I would love input of this one, Readers. Do you think it works? Favourite parts? Weakest part? Leave me some love in the comments below. Enjoy!

Word Prompts: And the dragon chose, fairy tale, fantasy, minimalism, fiction

from MorgueFile
Minimal Dream

And the dragon chose
a tasty reminder--
always take
the quixotic route
to adventure,
as you will find yourself
lost
       in
                       whimsy,
eating Turkish Delites
and
when you can no longer stand--
the dragon chose,
to ask you to the prom
dancing in times
and in musical rhyme.

Dream-like
and shining.
Travel by umbrella,
on breezes that taste of
lemon and meringue,
so soft and fluffy
only to arrive at your destination--
you'll never guess where...

...upon your bed,
laughing as the Dragon chose
for you to
eat your pillow
as you would eat a
Turkish Delite.

OctPoWriMo - Day 6 - (Pain Adventures)

I'm breaking with the pattern Dear Readers. This is my month! Ah-ha!

Writing Prompts: Adventure, Headache, Dreams

from MorgeFile

Pain Adventure

There goes your plans,
when a headache
comes to call,
knocking on your eyeballs,
and cha-cha through your sinuses.

It's like a challenge,
not moving your head
when it aches,
twinges,
pangs.

Will it  take a bribe,
of something like currency,
in Advil,
or Tylenol?

Barter your way
to relief,
by trudging to market
with your wares
of Asprin and Heat
and hopes it is buying.

Only to find
that it has long since left--
no heat left
and Asprin flung on the floor
and you overslept again.

Morning has come.

11:07 am

I hope you enjoyed today's poetic fare. Adventures of headache attacks! What do you do when you get a headache? How do you combat this petty to severe criminal? Leave me some love and a comment below. Thank you!

Sailor's Dreams

What if it was all in her head
What if it was all in her head
The delicious dream of sailing on the stormy seas
The delicious dream of sailing on the stormy seas
The dream of sailing in her head, what if
on the stormy seas, it was all delicious.

As she lays supine amongst the daisies
As she lays supine amongst the daisies
In another dimension, dreaming of sailor's stories
In another dimension, dreaming of sailor's stories
She lays supine as in another dimension dreaming,
sailor's stories of amongst the daisies.

There is a shipwreck riding fast against the waves
There is a shipwreck riding fast against the waves
At the mercy of her own wild imagination's creation
At the mercy of her own wild imagination's creation
Against the waves, there riding of her own imagination
a mercy is fast at the shipwreck's creation.

At a shipwreck of her own creation, riding the waves--
wild's imagination is sailing on the stormy seas.
In another dream of sailor's stories all in her head,
as amongst the supine mercy there was it,
the fast dreaming of delicious daisies.
What if she lays against the dimension?

Poetry Corner: Carousel Dreams

Quick poetry post for my Poetry Tuesday. I wrote a couple of poems yesterday, but the pantoum was not my best and the other was a haiku. I like to post several haiku at a time, because they are short poems. So tonight (early Wenesdayish) we are going back to May. This poem was inspired back the carousel at Eldridge Park in Elmira, NY. Where the rides are a dollar and the chance to win a brass ring. Like the good ol' days!

This is a pantoum. One of my faves and a reminder of summer's end. The repetition seems to evokes feeling of being a child, summer, fairs and such. Enjoy, Dear Readers!

Carousel Dreams

In a colourful blur of memories
spinning around your head--
in the sunshine you hear the music
and you feel like a kid again.

Spinning around your head
as the world whirls in colourful blurs
and you feel like a kid again--
picking out your trusty steed.

As the world whirls in colourful blurs
taking hold in the line the long minutes of
picking out your trusty steed,
for the adventure of a lifetime.

Taking hold in the line the long minutes of
waiting for your turn to arrive,
for the adventure of a lifetime
only costs one dollar.

Waiting for your turn to arrive,
when no cares are to be had--
only costs one dollar
to ride the giant giraffe.

When no cares are to be had--
in the sunshine and memories
to ride the giant giraffe
in a colourful blur of memories.

NaPoWriMo: Switch Out Poem

I had to, for this poem, exchange one word for another, a common noun with something intangible. And thus borrowing lines from a Wikipedia entry on the subject of said noun compose a poetry with the switched out word. Now I took much of these sentences and rewording them to form the poem, otherwise it would have be a very dry and dull reading of poetry. most like a lesson plan on the subject I chosen. So, with some lovely descriptive sentences about my topic, I turned it into a poem.

Today I used Candles = Yearnings and Wicks = Dreams. It played better lyrically to have two words being switched out. I think it actually reads well this way. I hope you, Dear Readers enjoy it. I am rather proud of this poem. If you curious, you should try this prompt. It was much different than any prompt I have had before. I liked it, it stretched the mind. Check out NaPoWriMo's if you would like to get into more challenging poetry writing and meet other writers.

Truth about Yearnings and their Dreams

A Yearning is a solid block of wax
With an embedded Dream,
Which is ignited to provide light
And sometimes used to measure time.
For a Yearning to burn,
A heat source is use—
To light the Yearning’s Dream
Via flame or desire.

A Yearning manufacturer or a Yearner
Makes the Yearning with skills hands
And has his trade from a Master Yearner
Often for years
Before applying their own Dreams to wax.

Such stuff as Dreams and Yearnings
They are delicate things
And over time the Yearning is used
And as the mass of solid fuel is melted,
Consumed,
The Yearning grows shorter.
What Dreams that are not vapourized
Are then consumed by the heat source.
It’s a seemingly all consuming Yearning.

The incineration of the Dream
Limited to the exposed length of the Dream,
And thus maintains a constant burning temperature
And rate of consumption,
Making the Yearning burn
A substantial enough to time.

Best to keep an eye on any Yearning
That are burning,
‘Tis dangerous to burn a Yearning on its own.
The result could be an uncontrolled dream
And subsequent loss of habituation
And property.
