OctPoWriMo Day 28: A Little Hunger

Something simple, something a little different, something about a basic need of humanity. I went a little deeper, maybe a little more though provoking. I also remember a bit about my high school health class with Abraham Maslow.

Hunger (as defined by dictionary.com. my go to source)
1. a compelling need or desire for food.
2. the painful sensation or state of weakness caused by the need of food: to collapse from hunger.
3. a shortage of food; famine.
4. a strong or compelling desire or craving: hunger for power.

Now add to HUNGER another, secondary emotion of your own choosing.

Word Prompts: sadness, joy, ambition, lust, yearning, self doubt, boredom, (or fetch your own via five minutes of free writing on the theme of hunger.)

OctPoWriMo a blog challenge that set you to write a poem a day for 31 days.

A Little Hunger

Hunger,
the basic desire.
As humans we need food to live.
Once
the first of the needs
upon which we humans need to live
are met.
You know the ones
upon the pyramid of needs.
It's after the hunger for
food,
clothing,
safety,
or knowledge.
Way upon the tippity-top
After the hierarchy of Maslow
has been attained.
We humans, we hunger
for ambition,
lust,
boredom,
or doubt.
Wanting what we can't
or
Don't have.
An endless spiral
of need and want
trailing after our own paths
much like hunger chases us
when it's been too long since the last meal
we chase the fame,
danger,
excitement.

At the core
we are very hunger animals.

  2. Hunger is so much more than the need for food. May we have the wisdom to know which hungers to satiate and which to starve.
