S of for Stardust

A love story, a fantasy adventure, and drama with a fantastical theme, that is everything in the book (and movie) Stardust by Neil Gaiman. And this is a short entry, because I was out all day doing VERY IMPORTANT work! Enjoy the poem! Read the book!!

Yes I used the name of Captain Shakespeare in the movie, not the book which is Captain Alberic and the ship the Perdita.

Cheers! (cause I got this on time, meaning before midnight EST).

Stellar Love

When you wish upon a star,
does it make the star now fall?
And you now have a chance to impress
the love that you so want to address.

Does it make the star now fall,
because you willed it to?
The love that you so want to address
with a quest to prove that love real.

Because you willed it to,
now you can bring a treasure to her
with a quest to prove that love real,
but what you didn't plan for was...

Now you can bring a treasure to her,
a beautiful fallen star that shines,
but what you didn't plan for was
the love of Yvaine is a much stronger pull.

A beautiful fallen star that shines,
at first with anger, but then something like
the love of Yvaine is a  much stronger pull
after the chase, the witches and Septimus too.

At first with anger, but then something like
a dance on deck of the Caspertine
after the chase, the witches and Septimus too
when for a moment the guard is down.

A dance on deck of the Caspertine
and some lightening to sell,
when for the moment, the guard is down
that love spans across the universe.

And some lightening to sell,
and a visit to Victoria reveals
that the love spans the universe,
but not the wall, unless to dust she returns.

And a visit to Victoria reveals
that you have a chance to impress,
but not the wall, unless to dust she returns
when you wish upon a star.

Pastoral Stardust

This one was easy. I just needed a few hours to find my reason for writing it. As I love pantoum, it on seemed appropriate to write a pastoral pantoum in the vein of a Neil Gaiman inspired dreamscape. I think this is my favourite optional prompt this month (NaPoWriMo) and the poem that I am most proud of, Dear Readers. Enjoy...

And now for (as always, optional) prompt! Today is Earth Day, so I would like to challenge you to write a “pastoral” poem. Traditionally, pastoral poems involved various shepherdesses and shepherds talking about love and fields, but yours can really just be a poem that engages with nature. One great way of going about this is simply to take a look outside your window, or take a walk around a local park. What’s happening in the yard and the trees? What’s blooming and what’s taking flight?

Today's poem and shout out goes to my Friend, Jesi. A beautiful soul and amazing poet. It is she who is like a star shining down on us all, bathing us is an ethereal light. Go check out her blog and writings! Toyou, Jesi, my Muse!! :-)

Pastoral Stardust

When the sunshine breaks across the sea
and the last vestiges of the night steal away
is the moment when the stars yawn, sleepily
and the day is birthed anew.

And the last vestiges of the night steal away,
I am wrapped within the warmth of your arms
and the day is birthed anew,
with a chance for joy and love to rejoice.

I am wrapped within the warmth of your arms,
watching the sunshine begin to dance across
with the chance for joy and love to rejoice
in pastoral gales of pale green grass and sheep.

Watching the sunshine begin to dance across,
much like faeries flitting from flower to flower
in pastoral gales of pale green grass and sheep
and its like something out of a storybook.

Much like the faeries flitting from flower to flower--
my heart beats in rhythm with yours
and it's like something out of a storybook,
when the hero is crowned king and his lady by his side.

My heart beats in rhythm with yours
is the moment when the stars yawn, sleepily
and when the hero is crowned king and his lady by his side--
when the sunshine breaks across the sea.

Now for my ON TIME check-in, the first one since Round 2 started. I knew this month was going to be tight, so I am glad that I still have enough focus to make ROW80 worth it. Oh, Dear Readers, it is always worth it, but I mean I definitely needed to refocus in April and May, to make this work, I am finally getting back on some sort track.

A Round of Words ion 80 Days, the blog challenge that know you have a life. Welcome to the Blog Hop!

This week:
*Writing: on track with my challenges. I am finding a rhythm in the last third of the month, finally. I am pretty proud of my poems. I only opted out of two of the 22 daily prompts this month. Thinking, Dear Readers, that I will still try a fourteener and a sapphic poem. Well, the sapphic will wait until Summer. Oh the maths!!!
*Reading: made a big dent in Murder in the Mews (Agatha Christie), it's an book of four short stories, so it is an easier read. I am not sure I will make the monthly goal of 4 books at this rate, but we shall see. There is still time.

This week (upcoming):
*Reading: finish Murder in the Mews by Friday. Start Alysa of the Fields (might even listen to the audio version), I was part of the recording of the books, in the chorus with some oohs and aahs, and even a line. It was written by a local author, my Hubs is the lead hero.
*Writing: work on writing the #writestuff monthly challenge piece
*Submitting: look for a piece to submit to Toasted Cheese's summer contest, A Midsummer Tale. Entries are due by June 21, 20145.

There is some progress there...

Jumping in feet first this week...

This week:
*Blogging: done yesterday. A review of Coraline book and movie. That was fun!
*Writing: wrote 2 short poems on Monday and blogged Tuesday. WORD TOTAL: 1208 word for the blog and 29 word for the cinquains.
*Reading: finished The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Really good! Sad, yes, but an engaging read overall. Started Stardust by Neil Gaiman. Seriously I am really addicted to this man's work!! Stuck on Windhaven (George R. R. Martin and Lisa Tuttle).
    *Social Media/Visiting: on track.
*Submitting: to Yalobusha Review (actually was on Sunday, but well after posting Sunday's check-in).
*Theatre Stuffs: Cast is almost completely off book. Looking so good.

This rest of the week:
*Writing: write daily between 100 - 500 words. Current projects are to write Flash Fiction for #writestuff challenge and/or work on Doctor Who story.
*Editing: The Real Road Trip and knock out between 20 - 30 pages before Sunday's check-in. Slack on this this week.
*Submitting: 1 new submission this week.
*Blogging: 1 new blog post (non-ROW80).
*Theatre Stuffs: need to call the lady we are borrowing the chair from and print off the press release to take to The Leader this week. Call my sponsors that are supposed to be putting in ads in the program.

A Round of Words in 80 Days is a blog challenge that challenges you to set goals and report on your progress. It is a Blog Hop, come in and warm yourself by the fire and visit with the rest of us writers.

Today is WIPpet Wednesday and I am not quite prepared. Today is 2/18, so let's do 8 + 1 = 9 lines from The Real Road Trip. It's a short bit. a little more about Selynee, this time when she's older. Trust me I will post a bigger snippet next week.

Bolting awake, Selynee sat upright. Her room was still dark. Tears were following down her cheeks as the dream receded from her memory. There was Marcie at the semi-formal, it felt like an almost reliving of that night. Selynee fought to shuck the dream off as she cried into her stuffed rhino, but the emotions left her feeling heavy.

Selynee threw off her covers. The pillows were already on the floor, only the rhino was wrapped in her arms. It was stared at her, with its little rhino smile on its face. “Oh Rupert!” she said, glancing at her clock. The green glowing number made she eyes ache. It was two in the morning and she was wide awake.

This cold, I tell you. I am so over winter! My productivity suffers when it is this cold. I am trying so hard to fight it. The good news is the The Mousetrap is coming along swimmingly. My cast is a delight to watch. We are a little over two week until the show. Wowsa! Scared and excited all rolled into one. What have you been up to in the middle of this snow/cold/winter, Dear Readers?
